I just got a message from them at my home telephone number. They stated that I signed up for surfsafe internet services and that my home telephone bill will be charged. I have NEVER signed up for any such service! I have called my phone provider; they are aware of their fraudulent business practices and have informed that they will not authorize any further charges. A set up charge of $30 was authorized but has been reversed. Surfsafe provided them with a web auth form. I don't click stupidly on the internet. I have been burned before, I never give out my credit card or personal information online. They had to have acquired my phone number illegally.

I even went through my internet history which goes back 3 weeks and there is no "surfsafe" anywhere except today because i was researching it. Luckily they called me to tell me i was going to be charged(I'm sure they do this to cover their a#@ es) I guess they bank on most consumers not disputing it for at least a few months and that's how they make their money. When I called their phone number both during and after busines hours a voice mail picks up, this voice mail shuts you off after 1/2 of a sentence telling you your message is too long and you need to try again. It is impossible to actually leave a message!!!! I'm sure this gains them even more valuable billing time! I was able to contact my phone carrier and stop the charges or so I thought. Time will tell what happens. I don't know if it surf safe or an affiliate who is getting phone numbers and charging accounts.

My guess is that they set up another "company" that refers them business and that it provides them shelter from prosecution. This other "company" only needs to provide a name and phone number to surfsafe in order for them to start billing. In their terms on their site they state that by providing a phone number you authorize billing!!! CRAZY!!! here's a quote from their terms "by providing your telephone number and/or billing information, you agree that you are liable for payment of such fees. You agree that all such fees may be automatically applied to your local telephone bill and that you have the authority to authorize such billing. You hereby authorize Surf Safe (or its partners and/or agents) to charge to the telephone number you provided to Surf Safe all such fees on a recurring or automatic basis." WOW WATCH OUT PEOPLE!!!
