We purchase an IBM Thinkpad laptop computer for a Christmas present. The modem card does not work,so we are unable to get onto the Internet. We are supposed to get 1000 free hours of AOL.So, we need the 56K PCMCIA Fax/Data/Modem. Thankyou for your time.

I have repaired IBM laptops for years. You need to disable the Infrared port and reboot the machine Then it should recognize your modem . There is an IRQ conflict with the modem and the infrared port, they are both trying to use the same resources .

Go to Start , IBM laptop, Configutation, It is the icon 3rd from top on the left side choose disable and reboot . Hope this helps
