Sweetbay Supermarket Hannaford Brothers / Food Lion / Delhaize America / Kash N' Karry - Hannaford Brothers - Sweetbay Supmkt Do you think that you were unlawfully terminated from any of the above companies? I followed their policies for over a year regarding this matter. And I was the one that lost my job. Plant City Florida

On August 22 2009 I was called to the office to face allegations of creating a hostile environment within my department which is the Meat Market of Sweetbay Supermarket chain store 1749 PLANT CITY FL. I have been accused of calling one of the meat associates, sorry for the language but a (F---ING B--CH) and that they have four or more people that have said that they have heard me say these exact words.

I have not said this. If I have said any thing at all derogatory it has been because of the constant discriminating and stressful environment I have been placed in. The problem consists of the friendship that our female associate and our assistant meat manager have. They spend a lot of time talking in the meat department office and in the cooler among other places through out the store. I have had no problem with their friendship. The problems revolve around the work that is getting put off on my self among others with in the department. [continued below]....

..... Having to do our own work then pull up the load of what they are not doing while they are talking.

This has been seen first hand by others out side my department and from within. People that have seen this are as fallowed, seafood lead, seafood associate, seafood associate, meat associate, meat cutter. My meat manager has even had to come in and get on to this female associate for not getting the product wrapped in a timely manner.

I have been to upper management more than once about the problem and nothing has been done. So there for how is one to feel. It first brought up to the store manager (not by myself). Then it has been brought up to my department head by me. Once more to my assistant meat manager. It was brought up again to the assistant store manager. Then it was brought up to the costumer service manager. Then once again to my assistant manager. It was then brought up again to another assistant store manager and my manager. At this point I was told quote ( This Just Needs To Just Go Away) by my manager. Finely I took it out of the department to our seafood manager. She has told me that it has been brought up to other managers. I am sure that with all the cameras that proof of this can be found.

 I would like it known that there were no problems in the meat department befor this female associate came to this store. I have been in this line of work for 20+ years and I have never seen a problem get handled like this. When this matter was first brought up one of the two should have been removed from the department. It is Sweetbays own policy that I have fallowed. They have an open door policy that states you may go to whom you feel comfortable talking to about problems. I did this and nothing was done. So I ask why. If you cant fallow them and believe in the policies, why have them.

I completely agree with what you went through.  I went through the same, only worse at a Sweetbay location in South Florida.  The situation was so bad where I worked, as a Manager, that it sent me to the hospital.  The company is crooked, and has NO moral compass, but has the ability to lie to your face, and lie through their teeth like it's another day.  They even retaliate against you on the corporate Delhaize website when legitimate complaints of hostile work environment and harassment exist in the workplace that you are reporting.  In my case, if you were a guy and reported the same problem you were "safe".    This is true in my case, believe I know.  They know too. 

It definately was a boys club.  In my case, the employer didn't check a single reference, and hired a person who was fired from her last employer for stealing cash and theft.    She lied on her application, lied to the person that hired her, lied about everything, and money and disturbances both with the staff and customer complaints were becoming more than apparent.  The management looked the other way and never dealt with the situation.   Our customers were complaining about bad service, the staff was complaining about missing money since she started working, and it was both a close employee and the customers who tipped the store off to the knowledge of the theft and firing at this particular persons previous job.  I was a girl, I knew paperwork, I spoke with her former boss whom I knew, who verified the firing for stealing money, and probably lots of it and notified the managers in charge about checking with former employer.  I was the fall guy "girl" for the boys club going on vacation, the management who looked the other way and did absolutely NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, about the store problem, but lied to your face.  At my store they had full blown alcoholics working on the job, and they knew it.  I made mention of it to the store manager, who said he knew it, for liability purposes, but nothing ever came of that.  I guess hiring someone sober, or paying for a spot alcohol test wasn't within the budget.  In my situation, they doctored up all the paperwork to cover up the truth.  I was blindsided by their outragous and complete lies.  Even to the unemployment compensation dept.  The company purgered themselves in about 90% of the interviews to make it look like I did something wrong which I didn't.  The Human Resources Dept was in on it to.   They were caught coaching bogus answers to the questions in the hearing, and when they were busted, they shut up, and never had an answer because they didn't want a lawsuit.  Guess who won the hearing against 1 lying Store Manager, 1 lying District Manager and 2 lying Human Resources Employees in 2 Unemployment Compensation Hearings.  Me.  I was the ONLY one telling the truth.  But in the end,  that never made up for the complete devestaion that they knowingly caused to my life, and to that of my sons. 

 I warned my company about the problem, much like the fellas did, but in the end I was made a scapegoat.  She wound up on video  - which the "same" boys club management watched - filling a bag of meat and steaks at the meat counter and walking out the door, after I  and just about every employee notified the management in charge about the problem at least a month prior.  Former employees whom I stayed in contact with me advised me of this.   The employees that worked directly with this person stopped her from stealing something and going out the door 2 weeks prior.   I was informed by my former co-worker, that this person who did a money pick up at the register, intentionally plugged in a wrong number for the pick up, in order to get her hands on a few dollars.  My co-worker picked up the crumpled up paper out of the trash, knew what the pick up money was, and notified the management.  It was already too late for me.

If you file a complaint on the Delhaize website and are retaliated against for doing so, make sure you have a witness.  I did, and the company wanted me to "shut off my phone" so the witness couldn't hear that they were referrencing and going against their own non retaliatory company and corporate policy as stated on the Delhaiz website.  When I said no, they pretty much stopped talking because they knew it would be heard and it would be known, that that is what they do.  Believe me, that is what they do.   They violate their own policies. . . .  in order to fire you for reporting a theft problem at the store, because the Management in charge wasn't doing their job, and because I was a girl.

All I can say, is that if you are an employee, be careful.  They tend to make up things to fire you for.  They fired a woman manager for no good reason, and a gal that hurt her back during work for filing a disability compensation claim.  Yep, they fired her the first day back while on back medication for her work injury.  She said, the managers tell the employees not to file workmans disability if you are hurt on the job. 

Sweetbay should be shut down and out of business.  They took away my livilihood and my ability to pay my bills and take care of my young child as a single Mother.   As a result of their complete inability to tell the truth, and cover up for the boys club non management of the problems, I am losing my home.  The truth is, I have 10 years in grocery store management, and my reputation and what I did was stellar.  In 5 months, I cleaned up, worked off the clock, and made a theft ridden dept, into the top sales in the district and in my store.  Go figure, if your a girl, and bust your a***, look out for the store, make money for the store and report things that need to be reported, you pretty much get screwed.  Maybe "karma" will have a way of working it out.  From what I know, the fella that hired the thiefs - wife - that was on a cruise or vacation divorced him.  Yep, probably caught in another fancy lie, like the lie he was told to put down on the paperwork for me.  The District Manager who lied in the hearing, was found out by his wife of all his other escapades. . .  and was divorcing his lying A** back when I was informed.  I don't know what happend to the HR couple who also lied their tails off.  I believe the lying Store Manager is still lying away at the store.  I often wonder if they ever think of what might happen to good employees with their intentionally made up, and blatent cover up stories?  Maybe all the people that don't know how to do their job - or tell the truth, can buy my home for me and my son, that we are losing as a direct result of your actions. 

Our lives have been completely devasted by this companys lies.  There is no other way to say it.

I could go on and on about other incidences at the store, but I won't.  If I see anyone filing a class action against this company I will gladly help at no expense, because of what they did to me without regard or conscience.   They, with their complete disregard for telling the truth have nearly completely destroyed a young boys life, let alone what it did to his hard working mothers life. 

Has Sweetbay any shame?
