Swift Transportation Swift Transportation Left Me For Dead as a Professional Driver Phoenix Arizona
On 07/14/13 while delivering freight for Swift Transportation on I-70east & Mile Marker #146 the trailer breaks locked up. After pulling over to the emergency lane, as I approached the rear of the trailer I observed the wires & hoses on fire. Of course I ran to secure the fire extinguisher and by the time I returned to the fire which couldn't have been more than ten seconds give or take, the entire rear underbelly seemed to be engulfed in flames. I immediately crawled under the trailer to attempt to extinguish the fire but unfortunately the fire extinguisher exhausted its fire retardent while the fire were continually spreading.
Seconds after crawling from under the trailer after realizing the fire were out of control, the trailer exploded. I swallowed a considerable amount of smoke both while under and while on the opposite side of trailer attempting to lower the landing gear & disconnecting the lines to allow me to uncouple the tractor from the trailer.
I saved Swift Transportation $120,000.00 for their brand new Freightliner Tractor by uncoupling & driving the tractor approximately 1000 feet forward. Once I was a safe distance from the burning trailer I immediately called 911 which in turn dispatched the fire department.
Given my location in Greenriver, UT in the middle of no where it took the fire department approximately 45 minutes to arrive. Immediately after alerting the police and fire department I informed Swift Transportation which took over 1/2 hour for there emergency roadside to answer.
Finally after over a half hour while the trailer is exploding and engulfed in flames they pickup the phone and after stating my emergency the first question Swift asked me were if their equipment were ok. Total disregard for my safety. I informed Swift roadside I needed an ambulance and was told he didn't no the number.
I literally had to drive myself 50 miles to the nearest safe truck stop and call myself an ambulance. Ater going through emergency on two separate occasions, once on 07/14/13 and on 07/16/13 for excessive smoke inhalation, vomiting a pink substance, eyes burning, headaches & constant ringing of the ears from the explosion, Swift terminate me which is considered a Wrongful Termination while on Workmans Comp. Since they are self insure in AZ their Doctors restricted me from driving a commercial vehicle, no heavy lifting and should sit 90% of the time which since Im now terminated makes it impossible to find another job. This is literally leaving me for dead. No income and they refuse to honor my workmans comp. pay which is 2/3rds of my gross salary. Literally anything. In the mean time preventing me from seeing my specialist of choice. Swift's fleet manager Ken & their terminal manager Kevin Vadnal, their VP Richard Stocking, HR, Shelia in the safety department, my driver leader Marco, the department head in CSR all sat back and gave me no support what's so ever. And are now using some senior adjuster Mr. Hodson to block me from generating income through the munipulation of their doctors while failing to pay me workmans comp. Only skunks and pigs are capable of such a vicious unethical act. SWIFT TRANSPORTATION TOOK FOUR HOURS TO CONTACT ME AFTER THE EXPLOSION. They left me for Dead!!
