After signing up to Books-a-Million Club, as a "bonus" I could receive a 3 month "free trial" of a magazine subscription. I asked the associate many times to be sure that there would be no charges made to my credit card, and that I could easily cancel the subscription before charges would be taken out. She assured me that this was the case - that I would receive a "big yellow envelope" with instructions to cancel - so I agreed to the free magazines.

After the 3 months were up, I looked to receive the "yellow envelope", but nothing about the magazine ever came. Before the trial ended I went through over a dozen numbers, automated menus, and less than helpful representatives. I called the book club - who told me to call the magazine - who told me to call the subscription company - who told me to call the Synapse Group, Inc. - after 10 minutes of menus and holding I finally spoke to a representative who told me that I would need to contact a different branch of their corporation that deals with the magazines - So I was then connected to Magazine customer service (https://www.magcustomerservice.com/wss/aboutus.do) - I spoke with a representative and requested my subscription canceled. I went through the cancellation process, and the cancel survey. After all of this, I thought I had successfully ended the  c"free trial" bonus.

A few weeks later, I noticed that my credit card had been charged $58.75 by "people magazine" I immediately called the reference number on my credit statement - this led me through another long process of calling numbers, menus, holding, being transfered etc... eventually I was back to the Synapse Group, Inc. - a rude representative told me that I had made a contract with the company and could not be refunded.. I called numerous times, all getting the same response - This was getting me no where.

I then put a stop payment on the amount charged to my credit card (an additional fee of $20.00 to stop payment) - The charge was never dropped. - 4 months later I had the same charge on my credit card for "renewal" of subscription, which I never requested - more phone calls - no result ...

This company is a SCAM and a FRAUD. They have my credit card on file and continue to keep it on file after numerous requests and reassurances that the # would be purged from the system. It has not been purged from the system. They never got my permission to have it in the first place. They keep charging my card and didn't have permission from me in first place.
