I have filed with the EEOC concerning this matter. For Legal purposes I am not giving specifics. Basically, I was a brand new employee flown out from NC to NY to train as a management Group Leader for the distribution center in Newton NC in January 2009. I was persistently harrassed humilitated and discriminated by Steve Maggard an inbound senior group leader. It became clear that there were many backstabbing employees that were more than willing to cover up his unlawful behavior because when I told another employee about my concerns I was fired a few days later! Not only was a fired, but I was fired over the phone!! I only had 2 weeks left in my training when all this occured. They gave me the excuse of not meeting company expectations eventhough I was never written up, given warning or any disciplinary action. Then they said I was behind on my work. Then they said I filed a complaint with Target headquarters in MN but it was pointless as all the Target employees responded like programmed clones. So, in June 2009, I filed with the EEOC. I hope to get some justice in this matter. This company is unethical and discriminatory!! Beware!! Feel free to contact me if you have any incidents of harrassment/discrimination regarding Target. Thanks and God Bless you!

Worker's Comp gone completely wrong

AUTHOR: Concerned - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, September 05, 2009

I am a current employee at a Target DC. I injured my back on the job moving a on-con item and due to my position with repeated lifting it just continued to get worse that evening. I called in to work the next day and hoped if I rested for the next couple of days things would heal. I returned to work the following week and filled out an incident report upon arriving. I was put into my normal lifting positon and in hour into my shift my back started hurting again. My GL took me into thier office and had me call the nurse line. She told me to put ice on it and see the nurse when she returned in 3 days. I mentioned it to my Group Leader and asked if there was another dept I could work in since I was in so much pain. I was told there wasn't any positions available at that moment and asked if I wanted to take a VOLUNTARY leave for my shift. I informed them that I needed the money and couldn't afford a day without pay. I was placed back in my position and could barely lift a thing.  6 hours into my shift after many attempts to see a dr they finally sent me to one. On the way out the guard informed me of an incident earlier that week where a worker smashed his hand with a palat. He was informed to return to his job. Unable to use his hand he was finally able to see the nurse who informed him that his hand was broken. After reading the other post apparently this happens often. I never would have imagined a company would be this irresponsible with accidents. My GL tried to blame me for improper lifting. I'm sorry but in my position I would have injured myself the first day if I had lifted improperly I've been here almost 4 mths lifting and loading for 12 hours each shift. There's no other way to lift but with the knees. Now I have to fear that if I do have something wrong that my job is in danger because of it.

I'm confused

You say you were discriminated against, but you don't say how. All you say is that you were fired for "not meeting company expectations" which is not discrimination.  You also say you were leaving out specifics, but then name the city and state, as well as the Group Leaders full name, which leads me to believe you are leaving out all the important facts, like why you were really fired.

Oh, and it really, REALLY angers me when you blame and ENTIRE company for ONE persons actions.  I work at the Target a block away from HQ, and no one in my store would act like that.  If we have problems with anyone, there is always someone to go to who will listen.  If my supervisor wouldn't listen to me (which I know he would), I can name 10 other people that I know would be able to help me in some way, and be fair about it. Just because one person pissed you off doesn't mean everyone in the company sucks.  If that were the case, you would be hearing lawsuits against Target the same as we hear about them for Wal-Mart.

It gets even better!!

I was at church a few Sundays ago and just happened to begin talking with someone who knew a professional at a local college that had worked in their job for over 17 years.  This person left a state retirement plan, insurance etc. to make more money and support their family. This person was also terminated (willfully ie. forced to resign) by TARGET for not meeting company expectations!!! This person did not want a termination on their flawless record of employment and just resigned! This company is a joke and their discriminatory practices need to be exposed.  Please,... if you know any additional information about their wrongful termination practices, SPEAK!

WITH AMERICANS LOSING THEIR JOBS LEFT AND RIGHT, YOU NEED TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND TELL YOUR STORY! ADVOCATE FOR THOSE WITHOUT A VOICE!!
