I started working in the Target distribution center in woodland california on August 2007, I was a packer. I was working a 3 day 12 hour shift and I have been doing this for about 1 month, I was always on time and never missed a day of work. On september 2007 I found out I was pregnant, but friends in the distribution center that have been working their for a while suggested me not to say anything.

I asked why and they said, usually people get fired because of that! I actually ended up telling my supervisor a couple of days later because of the heavy work we were doing. He suggested me the same thing, not to tell HR. He said I was in the 3 month probationary period and that they might let me go. So then the same day I got injured I was feeling completely sick from my pregnancy, I totally felt like I was having a miscarriage, so I decided to tell my supervisor about me not feeling good and that I wanted to go home, this was on a monday. I called my supervisor and left a message wednesday about the injury I had in the distribution center and I also wanted to know because of my pregnancy that I wanted to see if their was anything else I can do besides the heavy lifting.

So he did not call me all wednesday and then I emailed him to his email address from work, and never got an answer back. So on friday when I returned to work I was working as usual and then I saw the supervisor and he told me that he would talk to HR and see what they can do for me. Well that day I ended up going home early again and was told to call back the next day before my shift to see if their will be work for me.

So I did and no response, I wasnt feeling that good so I just waited. I did not heat anything back that day from my supervisor so I called sunday before my shift and talked to HR because my supervisor was not responding, and they told me that they would call me and let me know what they could find. So they did not call me sunday but they did call me on monday and told me that they couldnt find anything and that I was going to be terminated, so I told them what about my hand, and they said what about it. Well I got injured and am I going to be able to see a doctor, and they said well can you come and see the nurse here at Target and I said "yes" so I did and after that they told me that like it has been more than the 3 day period that I have to make a claim in regards to the injury that I was going to be terminated and that they would only pay for the doctors visits. I said that was ok as long as they do that, but that I did call my supervisor and advised him of this but never called me back. She said well we cant do nothing about it.

Then I told her that I also emailed him and she said when, I said it was less than the 3 day period I would have to look at my emails. A couple of days later the workers comp company called and asked me for a copy of the email and told me that if they did not have that email that I was not able to get any benefits, so I send it to her and she told me that they will pick up my benefits. I was getting disability at the time and they picked it up and paid me threw workers compensation, the thing is that I wanted a Job not to get terminated, at the end they told me all kinds of things and told me that I was fired because they could not find anything for me because of my pregnancy and that is the reason I was terminated and then because I did not advise them of the accident before the 3 day period and when I showed proof of it with the email I sent they gave me a different story.

So then I was told by the insurance company that I was terminated and I asked why was the reason and she couldnt tell me why. So I called the HR dept and emailed them to tell me of the reason that I was terminated or asked to get a letter in the mail why I was terminated and never got a response back.

I would suggest to people that are going threw this to speak up! Alot of the employees are scared to talk abou this, but we cant keep letting this happen. We need to work and we need our jobs, but if we dont speak out for out rights we wont get no where, just more people being fired or terminated because thats what their employers think its the best way. I felt like I was a problem to them and they wanted to get rid off the problem.

This is a huge company and it is built on faithful employees that are working hard, but they need to stop being selfish and see what they are doing wrong. Why is it that they are always hiring?Doesnt that make sense!

Lets hope that this helps out others that are going threw the same thing!

What else do you need, Princess?

Where to begin? It sounds like Target took on more than it was bargaining for when they hired you. First you get pregnant but don't let your supervisors know, instead risking your health and the health of your unborn child by continuing to do heavy work. Then you want special privileges because you got pregnant, including being shifted to a job other than the one you interviewed for and was hired to do. Then you get injured and you want compensation.

You "need" your job at Target, but you went out and got pregnant, rendering you incapable of safely doing the job you were hired to do. What is the matter with you people? You are so poor you desperately need a job at Target, but that doesn't stop you from popping out another mouth to feed- one which will absorb every penny of the money you make at Target! And somehow it's Target's responsibility to care for you?

What "rights" do you think you are entitled to? A transfer to an easier job because you got pregnant fifteen minutes after Target hired you? I hate to sound heartless, but I'm constantly amazed at how much people think they "deserve" because they work for a company that has lots of money. So is Target required to give you a cushy desk job you weren't hired to do and aren't qualified for, for the same salary- or more?- plus days off when you are sick and health benefits? All of the Above?

If you were within your probation period, you can not switch positions. You can't change your schedule, get a promotion or anything. I'm sorry, but what did you expect? You only worked there for a month, and then couldn't do the job you were hired to do. They hired you for a specific job, and a month later you wanted to switch. I understand that you were trying to protect your child, and that you got injured. While the injury alone (only because it was an on the job injury) should have allowed you to switch positions temporarily, the pregnancy does not. If you would have been able to stay in your same position for the rest of your probation period, there shouldn't have been a problem switching you to a better job.

As far as getting a lawyer, don't expect too much. You've waited over a year to do anything about it.

Did you see a local attorney?

California has some very strong anti-pregnancy discrimination laws, and when you notified your supervisor, the company was then put on notice.
