Target National Bank Credit Card Services Target National Bank OUT RIGHT LIED TO ME Minneapolis, Minnesota

Target Red Card, or a representative there-in, very plainly lied to me and because of this my credit score has been significantly damaged and all of my credit cards have been canceled. The customer service has been poor at best and representatives have been extremely rude and discourteous.

I have had a target card for almost 5 years now and have remained in good standing until recently. I had paid off... what I thought... was the balance in full last January. Unfortunately, the service charge hit my account after I made the payment and I was oblivious to this because I was under the impression that when you pay a card off that's it. How naive I was. Well, having gone paperless long ago this remaining balance stayed on the account for 2 months with out a phone call, letter, or email. They later claimed they tried to contact me via phone. If they did they sure didn't try very hard. I was alerted to the delinquency when I received a letter stating that my account had been declared 2 months delinquent. Crap! Two months?! After I had paid the balance in full?! I immediately contacted target red card services to inquire about the delinquency, and this is where they lied...

They told me that if I paid the remaining balance right then, they would waive any late fees and refrain from reporting the delinquency to Trans Union (credit agency). So I paid the balance, of course, and believed them. Wrong move... About a month later I was having a finance check done to see if I may qualify for a loan to buy a house and the company told me that my credit score was not good enough and they had a "red flag" come up with Target National Bank. So, as it turns out Target did report the delinquency to Trans Union. Which, I know now, they had to. However, they had no problem telling me that they would not report it to Trans Union when I was offering to pay the balance. I'm not sure if the representative knew this couldn't be done or if they were just trying to keep me happy by saying such things. Either way, it was a complete and total lie.

Today I received a letter from another of my two credit card banks (the other being the red card) Informing me that they would be terminating my account because of the situation with the target card. So now, I have a poor credit score, no credit cards in good standing, and worst of all my fiance and I will be doomed to live in an apartment for a long time to come. All because of Target Red Card and their wonderful bank. I couldn't let it go, I called red card services to try to find some way to make sense of what has happened. I spoke to some lady who was completely unsympathetic and uninterested in my plea and more concerned with lecturing me on the in's and out's credit cards like I'm some child with his first credit card. I have a masters degree and will begin Ph.D. work at Tech next fall.  I most certainly do not need a lesson from some control freak mother with a headset.

So, I urge you... please, never get a Target Red Card. No matter how many times they offer it to you in the checkout line. I from this day forward will never shop at Target ever again.
