This is the letter that I received - please note, I DO NOT have my name on any utility bills at the address that this came to. I became suspicious when the letter told me to "Keep winning confidential." The check looks authentic, but I am tossing it. It was drawn on the Sandy Spring National Bank of Maryland, 17801 Georgia Ave., Olney, MD 20632 for the company Eagle Components, Inc., 19228 Orbit Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20879. I have copied the letter verbatim - any typos are theirs, not mine.
RE: AWARD WINNING NOTIFICATION:
Congratulations on your success as one of the winners of North American Utilities draw held on Monday April 24th, 2008. Participants were selected through a computer ballot system, drawn from 149,000 telephone numbers and utilities bills of the individuals who sign up for the services. Your ticket number: 21545, with the serial number LR-717 emerged as one of the winning tickets. You have therefore been awarded a lump sum pay out of $46,500.00USD cash, which is the winning payout for the series. This is from total prize money of $25,234,000.00 shared among the winners.
Our firm has secured for, the percentage surcharge to be paid as commission on your winning prize to the Lotto Regulatory Board, saving you the trouble. The check for $2,310.00 USD enclosed covers the charges/fees required to be paid, prior to receiving your winning. Keep winning confidential until your prize money is received to avoid multiple claims.
