TCF Bank charged me excessive and unfair overdraft fees with in the last 2 & 1/2 years , Minneapolis, Minnesota
*Consumer Comment: Why?
I have been a customer with TCF Bank for more than two-and-a-half (2 & 1/2) years. Within these years I have been excessively and unfairly charged more than a thousand dollars ($1,000), yes a $1,000 in varying fees. Some of my balances were timely manipulated to create an overdraft especially when online banking was'nt yet upgraded to allow customer to see their balances. I am so so so fed up with this bank I can't wait to switch but where? I hear the credit unions are way better. Something needs to be done, this bank cannot be allowed to continue ripping poor customers of their hard earn incomes. Thanks Ripoffreport.com for giving me a voice.

Why?

Why do you need On-Line banking to show you your balance?
Your bank has no idea what you have spent until the merchant receives it. This may be several days, and often not the fault of the bank, instead it may be because of how the merchant processes their debits. Not to mention if you write a check it may take several days. This is why you should be using a Written Register. This way you can write down your transactions when you make them. Then as long as you don't spend more than you show available the chances of you over drafting your account is about zero. Now, what should you use On-Line banking for? To verify when any deposits you make are posted and available, as well as making sure that there are no fraudulent charges that are showing up on the account. Which because you have a written register off what you are spending makes that job a lot simpler.
By the way Credit Unions will charge you Overdraft Fees just like banks will, the only advantage is that their fees are generally lower. But they are catching up.
