Brittany, employee, authorized a transition on my account that she got no confirmation. because of this act it cause my account to over draw. i told her to cash my check, she didn't inform me that cashing a check is still based on account balance. so she just deposited it, making only $100 funds made available, though i just told her that was the whole reason i didn't want to deposit it. so I walk out with $180 in hand thinking it was from a cashed check. she messed up my whole account. and they refuse to reverse all the charges.

Why Does She Need Confirmation??

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 30, 2013

Unfortunately, you authorized the transaction and - generally speaking - no one in a managerial role is going to confirm a transaction for so small a dollar amount.  If this were several hundred dollars - yes it would have to likely be confirmed.  But not for something at the $100 level.  Since you authorized the transaction, there is nothing for her to confirm because it isn't her account - it's yours.  A bank teller is not authorized to do something different from what you tell her to do; keep in mind a teller is basically a minimum wage individual who is directed to follow what you ask the teller to do.  It isn't her job to think any further than that.  I think what you wanted her to do is for her to tell you that you were going to overdraw your account by cashing the check in full.

She has no access to your account balance unless you ask her to give you that balance.

She doesn't have your balance because whatever the bank shows as your account balance is NOT your account balance.  Only you have your account balance.  That is why the other folks commenting on the thread are telling you this is your responsibility, not the teller's responsibility.  I think a bigger problem is it took less than $80 to overdraw your account and that caused other cascading overdrafts to occur, fromn what you're inferring.  If you really want an opinion - you should have simply done a straight deposit and not withdraw any money at all.  Let everything post, and then withdraw funds the following day without worrying about an overdraft.

 Best of luck to you....

You need to learn the hard way

AUTHOR: MochaG - ()

It is obvious that you do not know or want to learn about the check system. Yes, cashing a check will base on your current balance and it always is that way (unless you have a business account but the negative balance will be dealt differently). The bank won't simply advance money to any individual from a check deposit but only $100. They do NOT OBLIGATE to INFORM you but it is you who needs to educate yourself (in the contract you signed). You made a mistake and I hope you will LEARN from your lesson the hard way.
