Hello fellow veterans and all those that work hard for their money. I want to take a moment to warn you to be extra careful before buying or making a deal with actor and car show host and dealer, Ted Vernon. He sold me a pieced-together car known in the mechanical trade as a frankenstein car. I traded an H2 Hummer, which usually goes at auctions, for around $14k. I told him I wanted a good running car that I can drive to the VA Hospital like I did with the Hummer. I told him I did not mind doing a little body work and cosmetic work, but what I got was a nightmare instead.

Initially I told him no junk cars. He was offended that I would say such a thing because he does not do that kind of business with people. He said I have the perfect car for you - a 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. He said it only needed a fuel pump. He said the deal is I will put the fuel pump on this car and I will deliver it in the next three days. Everybody seemed so nice as I handed over, in good faith, the title to my Hummer and expected the same back in good faith.

After three days the nightmare began. It was one thing after the other. They told me they were stripping another Rolls Royce out to put those parts on this car. I was a little confused and angry because this sounded strange. I was very uncomfortable and called Ted Vernon's wife, who told me there are all kinds of problems. I thought to myself, well this should have been addressed initially. But what could I do about it; I have no car.

She was rude and told me to calm down or I'll just ship the car as is. She said, "do you want me to ship the car as is, undriveable, or for them to fix it". Wow, I thought! Not very nice people to deal with after the sale. Well, I lashed out again a week later and she said the same thing. I thought....wow, what a copout. How rude.

So, my choices were slim. I had to wait yet again with no timeframe. I was at their mercy.

Finally, a Rolls Royce mechanic, named Steve, told me this was his car and that they called him when they can't figure out a Rolls Royce. I thought okay, a Rolls mechanic! Now we are talking. I'll give him the benefit of the doublt. Little did I know.

He said I will have the car running and driveable. It will get you around town. He said he would deliver it in the morning, but instead it came on a wrecker after dark. So I couldn't tell much at that time. I trusted the Rolls Royce mechanic would really know what he was doing. There was no gas in the car. We got it off the wrecker sputtering, or at least that's what the gas light indicated. I put it in the yard. The transmission was clunking very badly, which upset me, for something that was supposedly fixed by this mechanic. I got up early in the morning. Boy, was I in for it. Little did I know what I was in for.

I put gas in it; the light stayed on. I timed it, which was not done. Apparently it needed more than a tuneup. After a compression test, all the cylinders failed miserably. There was literally oil pouring out of the tailpipe. I couldn't get it to stop smoking. All the plugs were fouled. Furthermore, the transmission bolts were loose, which ruined the starter. This is what was fixed by a Rolls Royce mechanic - ha ha ha! Well, the rust is extensive.

In a nutshell, it won't even make it out of my driveway. Basically, it is fit for a junkyard to melt down. Ted Vernon must have known. How could he have not known. He did not deliver on his promise. He is not a man of his word. He is a ruthless shyster that takes advantage of veterans of which I told him I am veteran, or, for that matter, anyone else that may be naive. I'm sure he will keep doing this. So please learn from my mistake of dealing with this man and take your own mechanic with you when you go. Do not trust their mechanics. It seems to me with all my mechanical years of experience, though I was not there to oversee what they were doing as I was in West Palm Beach, that I apparently know more than they do. So their mechanics need to go back to school. They're supposed to be professionals. In conclusion - stay clear of Ted Vernon Specialty Autmobiles and that way it you will not get victimized.

I can relate to your problem with Ted Vernon. He is a crook.

I too have filed a comment about Ted Vernon. Unlike professional auto salespeople, he only wants to sell you once. He thrives on one time sales. He has zero conscience and frankly gives the car sales business a bad name.

I would simply recommend that people stay away from Ted Vernon. He is NO GOOD!!!!

You Are a Disgrace To The Uniform!

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, December 11, 2013

You can put away the Veteran card now, little boy, because being a Veteran has NOTHING to do with this.  You're just USING VETERANS to gain sympathy for your participation in a STUPID transaction to begin with.  Anyone who would use Veteran's Status to justify their own stupidity in a car deal is nothing more than a low life maggot and an absolute disgrace to all of us who have/continue to wear the uniform with honor.  You didn't even bother to check out what you were buying.  Real, real smart.

Think about it

AUTHOR: coast - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, December 11, 2013

Think about it. If a dealer (or anyone else) had a Rolls Royce that needed only a fuel pump, wouldn’t they replace the fuel pump so they could sell a valuable working automobile? I would seriously doubt that a non-working 35-year-old vehicle would need only one part.
