Two weeks ago after writing 892 checks for about $40,000.00 and not one bad check, My checks started being declined. First I thought it was equipment or computer glitch. Code 3. Next day no problem. A few days pass, again CODE 3. I figured it was the first gremlin returning. I tried again next day, no problem.

Then yesterday, on errands out of town, WHAM! Good thing I am careful to plan for the unexpected. I was PO'd. So I went back to the first merchant were the first CODE 3 happened, yep another CODE 3.

I went to my BANK livid. I said, "I want to be told what is going on!"

The bank manager listened and understood. Why carry a Checkbook if I cant tender checks. If I cant tender checks, why do I need a bank? The manager concernedly so, agreed. Launch! She begins an investigation with my permission. I suggest she treat me as if I was suspect.

So, we tried opening me a new account, Almost instantly I was approved. I asked who approved me. Was it a formality of the bank? Nope, they did a report, wanna guess with WHO. Yeppirs, TELE CHECK.

I fess up to the manager. I had already called TC earlier and gotten a recording saying I had been declined because of lack of information. It instructed me to enter my contact phone number. I did, and it responded telling me the check was approved and to resubmit it to the cashier. Since I went and withdrew money to cover the purchase, I decided to go to the original merchant which I was agained declined after being approved just an hour earlier.

I gave the manager the denial record. She called the 800 #. She was informed there were no issues with me, no issues with WOODFOREST BANK, and the check was approved. Further to resubmit the check. By now she is mad! "What the HECK is going on? As, our customer of course your concern is going to be with WOODFOREST BANK." she said.

"We are going to get to the bottom of this, and I am going to notify Corperate HDQTRS." she said.

It took a few minutes but she returned with a direct number to live customer service. Not consumer customer service that is a recording, but customer service for BANKS. 1-800-697-9258, write this down, use it, harass them whenever you please the pleasure is all mine.

Now, she did not know I had committed the 800# to memory. It is a personal ability I have developed. I can be several feet away and tell what #'s you are pressing.

She questioned the TC rep as to why I was being declined. The rep parroted the recording. Frustrated, the manager ask what criteria was used to arrive at a CODE 3. She was told, and then said "I am putting the customer on the line, and you explain that to him." The rep basically said the frequency of my check writiting generates a statics that I am a bad risk. In other words statistically I might in the FUTURE writing a BAD CHECK. Slander. Attorney's are welcome to contact me emailto:badbiz@howdoinet.com

The manager said she is referring this to Corperate HDQTRS WOODFOREST BANK.

THE TELE CHECK MANAGER IS FERNANDO-5613, don't ask for him by the 5613 or they will know you are a consumer. Just say "I was returning his call." Heh Heh Heh

IF anyone cares WOODFOREST only has two comments here at RIPOFF REPORT, it will be a shame to close my account, if only in protest. I found the customer service excellence achieved by no other commercial business.

Fair and Accurate consumer reports

The report that Telecheck is supposed to give the merchant is about YOUR credit worthiness, not the banks, not your momma's, not the man in the moon. If their reports are inaccurate, there is a process that allows you to correct their mistakes. If they refuse to correct thier mistakes, then you need a lawyer to help clean up their mess.

I am curious as to the poster above who posted the inflammatory "statistics" rumor about Wooforest Bank? Do you work for the competitor who is now being sued in a class action lawsuit by cosumers who's consumer reports were inaccurate and incomplete or the one where 2.3 consumer records were stolen and sold?

Seems like check reporting companys should get their act together and maybe instead of having your employees waste their time posting bogus crap on the internet, pay more attention while doing their job.

There is a Federal whistle blowing statute that would allow compensation if anyone (employee, consumer) has knowledge of and reports illegal activity that rips off the government. Considering all that I've seen, it wouldn't surprise me if this type of thing is happeining also. We'll see.

Just passing along info. I work for a competitor of Telecheck and I will tell you
that WoodForest Bank has the worst % of fraud, account closed, and stop payment checks. The statistics are staggering. I would be willing to bet that is why they are denying your checks.

I, too, have been a victim of this horrible company, but you do have a way to stop them from giving merchants false consumer reports about you.

First, order a copy of your complete file from this company. Review your file and make sure everything is accurate. If it is not accurate, send a letter disputing the inaccurate information.

I would also hire an attorney who is knowledgeable in Federal laws such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices, Driver's Privacy Protection Act (this is where they obtain some of your personal information), Mail Fraud, the RICO act and the Credit Repair Organization Act. Maybe not all of these laws will apply to your particular situation but your attorney will be able to examine the events that occurred along with the documents and let you know if any of these laws apply to your case.

I am in the middle of litigation against this company, and I can tell you they are not only harrassing consumers, but they are hurting the merchants and our economy as well.

Check writing is on the increase, not decrease. As long as you are acting responsibly with your checking account, no one legally should be reporting "negative" information about you, regardless of all of the other "evil" people in the world. Fair and accurate credit reports should be just that, fair and accurate, period.

Keep fighting the good fight. There are many weak people who don't either know how to fight back, or who don't have the resources to do so. The phrase "Have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them" seems to be very appropriate when dealing with Telecheck.

Simple solution

Paper checks will eventually be done away with due to all the negative external factors in this WORLD..fraud, identity theft, etc. (PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS PERSONALLY, YOU MAY NOT BE A FRAUDSTER BUT BECAUSE OF THEIR STUPID BEHAVIOR, THEY ARE RUINING IT FOR YOU)

Sorry, but it seems like Telecheck had to create declines(code 03) to apply to every check that gets processed through their system. Code 03s are declines based on risk factors. Why do the code 03's exist?? Again, it's based on the negative external factors in this sinful world. The world just keeps getting worse. So, blame it on the dishonest people in this world. Unfortunately, Telecheck has had to make some changes by creating Code 03's to respond to the changing external environment. That is again, the negative environment. What Telecheck is trying to do is to PREVENT and reduce the number of high returned checks or fraudulent checks.


Anyways, everyone fears changes. Checkwriters, now that code 03s are possible to encounter, there is nothing you can do about it because...like I said, the innovation of code 03s is part of a solution to reduce all the fraudulent, returned checks, etc. So, when you get down to the core of it, it's not Telecheck's fault, it's the fault of the WORLD, and yes the faults of others around you will affect your life at times.

So, in the end I HOPE paper checks will eventually become extinct. As the world changes, I am sure one day writing paper checks will no longer exist and they will be done away with. I am confident there will be another innovation to use instead. I don't care if Telecheck has to close down because of paper checks becoming extinct. The profits Telecheck makes from merchants is really being deposited into the banks of 'First Data.' Telecheck is owned by First Data. First Data has many many other product lines and they are very large company. I doubt shutting down the Telecheck product will hurt them. After all, First Data is an innovative company.
