Apparently we were contacted in August 2002 to send an invoice based on a our name being placed in the American Business Source Directory Internet Toll-Free Directory. Don't know if they said it was a 2-year subscription or not as the person they contacted is no longer here. We never received this publication.

This past June 2004 I was contacted by someone in their Customer Service department and said that we had a two-year subscription and needed to verify our address so that they could send us an invoice. I gave them the address since I was unfamiliar with how this was set up and it sounded like we needed to pay for the second year.

I called back again to cancel this order and was told that the order was already in and this was the second installment of a two-year subscription. The first invoice showed that it was a 1-year listing and the second invoice we received said it was for 2-years of listing. I started to question this whole thing and did some checking on the internet to see if this was truly a real company and found out that others have been ripped-off by this company also.

I wrote to them stating that we would not ba paying this invoice and to immediately credit this invoice and stop communicating with our firm. I'm hoping that this will take care of this issue. If anyone else has had similar experiences, I would like to know.
Thanks

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome! Writing Them Does Not Work

AUTHOR: Jacob - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 28, 2004

Just writing a letter to them will not work. They will continue to harass you, send invoices and send faxes. Even if you ignore them, after time, they will start threatening to submit your company to a collection agency.

As recommended by others here, you should contact your states Attorney General, and file the proper complaint. It is easy. Here is Alabama's Attorney General website: http://www.ago.state.al.us/

Go there and find a complaint form to download, or contact them through their form. The form, at least in my case (in NC), consisted of simple name/address info, and a section to write about the problem.

After a while, they'll get back to you asking for more info, or letting you know that they are contacting Ameri-Source.
In my case, it was only a couple weeks after that, that I received a credit memo from Ameri-Source. That was followed a couple days later by a letter from the Attorney Generals office with a copy of Ameri-Source's letter to them.

Their letter pretty much acknowledges that they are zeroing out the balance, and then goes on to deny that they did anything wrong and that I was a liar, but for the sake of goodness, they will comply. It was a little frustrating to read their letter, but with the balance zeroed out, it wasn't that bad.

Good luck.
