I needed someone to design an e-commerce website for me.

The good:

I found Tex Design Studio and Elijah.  Elijah was very friendly and very informative.  I appreciated his help and tips on search engine optimization.  He quoted me approximately $1,200 to do a website for me on Joomla.  I picked the template out and sent a list of things I wanted in appearance and functionality.

The bad:

Elijah did not meet his promises.  I had paid him half the amount I owed so he could start the project.  I had been so frustrated by his not doing what he said that I considered just not paying him the second half and cutting my losses by walking away.  I should have listened to my instincts!

He had not even really started the website when he said he needed the other half of the money.  He said that when he transferred the website files to my server from his server, the files could be lost and he would have to spend a lot of time repairing the files to make them work.

Also, he said that once the files were on my server, I could just change my password and he would not be able to collect the second half of the money.  He said that I needed to pay because other people had done that to him.  He trusted me, of course, but not the other people.

Against my better judgment, I paid him the second half.  He said he would be going on vacation for two weeks and would work with me the week before he left and have it completely done that Friday.  As of Friday evening, he had not even started.

I sent him an e-mail and told him that he needed to just give me my money back so I could go elsewhere.  He refused and said he would get it done.

The Ugly:

At the end, the website was not done.  It was not even functional.  I had a list of 20 items that he had not done that he had known about from the beginning that I wanted.  He just left town and told me to make a list of things.  He should have at least checked the functionality.  I should not have to make a laundry list of things that he did not do to make it functional.

He was paid the full amount and the website was not functional.  This is not a cosmetic thing, this is not me changing my mind..  These are things I asked for from day one that were not done.

I told him I wanted the second half of the money back, as he had not delivered a functional website.  He was shocked.  I told him I would dispute it if he did not return the second half of the money and would write about him on

He disputed the charge.

You should not trust this man.  He will not do what he says.

If you pay someone to do your website, only pay them half the money.  They should only get paid the second half when your website is completely done.  That is standard procedure in the "web design" business.  Anyone who demands payment for the second half of your website before it is done is not being honest.

Another update

AUTHOR: Dallas - (United States of America)

Let me be clear about this, anything Elijah Clark does to me, I am going to post on Ripoff Report.

I paid him to do a website.  He did not finish it.  He had me pay the full amount when the site was barely started.  This is not standard practice.  I had a list of things I wanted on the site and they were not done.  In fact, if someone had placed an order on my store, I would not have even known as that function of the site did not work.

I filed a complaint about him on this site.  I regret that.  Not because it was not true, but because since then Elijah has been making up lies about me on complaint sites and doctor review sites.

When I saw that he was capable of just lying about me and smearing my name all over the internet, I decided it would be best to remove the complaints and let it be.  I removed the complaint from complaints board.  Ripoff report would not remove the complaint.  They do not remove complaints because they believe that the truth will not be told if people are pressured into removing their posts.

I wrote Elijah that I would remove the complaints that I could and I had the lies he posted about me removed.  I am an acupuncturist.  I closed my office and have not treated a patient for a year and a half.

He posted that I was an awful acupuncture specialist and that I was selling illegal herbs.  Im selling ginseng in my online store.  He also dragged a friend of mine into it by saying he was involved in my selling of illegal herbs.  I had used his name in a testimonial to him on my acupuncture site because he saved my moms life when she had a pleural effusion.

I Googled myself yesterday and saw a new review on a doctor review site.  Remember, I have not even had an office for a year and a half.  The ratings were very low.  I cannot prove he did it, but it would seem obvious to most people that he is still being vindictive.

He is saying untrue things and smearing my name on the internet because of my post here on Rip off report.  I told him two months ago that they would not remove the review of him and I said that the situation was rectified to try to keep the peace.  I have no interest in having someone working full time to smear my name in revenge.

He seems to not want to let this drop.  I imagine some people have found the review of him on this site and he thinks it is hurting his business.

This morning at 7am I got a nasty rap song sent to my phone as a message from the number 811 505 8634.  Of course, I cannot prove who did this.  It is my belief that Elijah did it for revenge.  I am a middle aged woman and have no reason to have these things happen to me other than that I made Elijah mad and he wants revenge.

I do not know what to do at this point.  I called a truce and removed the reviews that I could.  I had the fake reviews he posted about me removed, although they were picked up and spread all over the net.  I had to re-activate my personal website to tell the truth about what is going on with the fake reviews.  I did not use his company name because I did not want to stir things up more.

I do not know why he is continuing to harass me.  All I know is that from now on, when a false report is made on the internet about me or if I am harassed on my cell phone, I will be posting it on this website for all to know what is going on.

Elijah Clark, leave me alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Complaint update

AUTHOR: Dallas - (United States of America)

Although I never had a complete website and never got a refund, I wrote here that the situation had been rectified.  I did not want to continue dealing with this issue.

The owner made false complaints about me on complaints board.  I knew that if I continued telling people what he did, he would continue to lie about me and be malicious in other ways.

The complaints about me are still out there.  He has managed to get his ripoff report to go way down the page on any searches that might be done about him on Google.

I am still finding posts using my name, even though the original source site removed the fake complaint.  The information is propagated all over the net with no recourse.

I suspect that he will continue to string customers along and not do what he says he will until they just walk away after paying for half of the amount due.  I don't know why he does this.  I eventually came to the conclusion that he must not know how to do the things he said he would.

I wish I had listened to my gut instinct when he had not finished the website and wanted the other half of the money.  If I had just walked away, none of this would have happened.

I had this feeling I should just walk away because I was so frustrated that he had not done what he said he would on the site.  I have rarely been in such a frustrating situation.

The biggest untruth in this story is that he told me he could not finish my site and make it functional until he put it on my server.  That is not true.  Web designers transfer websites to customers servers all the time.  It was a ploy to get the second half of the money for his vacation.

I recommend you do not pay for the second half of a website until it is fully functional and how you like it.  If someone tries to get you to pay the second half and your site is not complete, refuse!  That person has no reason to finish your site after he/she has been paid all the money.

I did not have the option

AUTHOR: Dallas - (United States of America)

I was not given the option of a complete website.

I was told that the website would not be complete until I paid the second half of the money.

I was told that the website could not be completed because "files would  be lost" on the transfer from your server to my server.  This is not true.

You could have finished the website and made it functional before the second half of the money was demanded.

To demand the second half before the website was done was not right.  That is not how websites are done.  I trusted you.

You pay the first half to get it started.  You do not pay the full amount until it is completely done and the customer is satisfied.  That is how it is done by reputable companies.  I trusted you.

Company CEO Response

AUTHOR: Tex Design Studio - (United States of America)

Sorry for your concern dealing with Tex Design Studio. Unfortunately,
any website that goes live has to be paid in full before it goes into
the customers server. We offer each of our customers 100% money back if
the website is not on their own server. Being that you requested your
website be moved to your server early and agreeing to our terms, you
made the decision to move an incomplete site and pay it in full. Once
this site was taken live, you then locked myself (Elijah Clark - CEO of
Tex Design Studio) out of the website to access any files and requested
your money back. Ultimately, you requested a full website for half the
price and we (TDS) couldnt do anything about it. That is not the way
that we or any web development company does business. Our testimonials
are legit and so is our terms and policy. We always refund our customers
their deposit if they are not satisfied. If they are not happy with the
website or other service, we cannot and do not force them or hold their
deposit. I do apologize that this matter couldnt have been taken care
of as responsible business owners. This is a legitimate transaction and is in order with our TOA.
