I was asked to put a $500 deposit on a car that I was interested in. The deposit was over the phone on a credit card and no papers where signed and the salesman that took the credit card information never told me it was a no refund deposit. Two days later I decided not to purchase the car because after running the VIN.# through my insurance company I discovered that there was a $3300 claim filed on the car that I wanted to buy that was not on the CAR FAX. When I called in to tell them I didn't want to buy the car Texas Auto Direct told me they wouldn't refund the depoisit back to my credit card. Not a problem, I called Discover and told them the situation and disputed the amount. DON'T LET THESE PEOPLE TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU! MAKE SURE YOU RUN THE VIN # THROUGH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND DON'T BELIEVE THE CLEAN CAR FAX. I HAVE RUN INTO THIS BEFORE WITH OTHER DEALERS ALSO.

Have you seen or test-driven this car?
"MAKE SURE YOU RUN THE VIN # THROUGH YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY"
That is helpful advice.
"I HAVE RUN INTO THIS BEFORE WITH OTHER DEALERS ALSO."
Due to your prior experience it seems as though you would have investigated before you agreed to pay the deposit. I would expect the deposit to be nonrefundable but since there is no signed agreement you may win your dispute.
