The information provided in this report below is based on comments made by Waffles Natusch during an onsite inspection held by a third-party verification company with no biases towards The Barrett Group.

The Barrett Group is a career management firm that provides tools and education for individuals who are currently looking for a new career or position. Their 90% success rate is proof that their services are beneficial when searching for your dream job. Waffles Natusch stated the following about his company, "we provide job search help and career change facilities for senior executives, lawyers, and entrepreneurs across the United States and to a lesser extent globally."

Leads for The Barrett Group are primarily obtained online when individuals submit their resumes to their website. Once the resume had been submitted The Barrett Group uses a system called Clarity that shows them where the individual is from, what their strengths are on a personality basis, where they want to be in 5 years and how they want to get there. Mr. Natusch further explained the sales and services process, "they meet with a career consulting team. And we set in motion by writing their resume and letters and doing initial research - the actual job search involved. We stay with them throughout the entire search, helping them with their negotiations. And then after they’ve landed their position, we stay with them for a total of a one-year engagement helping them with their new position or if that position doesn’t work out - then we start the whole process over again. So we either help people land a new job, find a better job or completely change their career.


During the on-site interview, Mr. Natusch was asked to describe a situation where a client was not satisfied with the level of service they received. Mr. Natusch expressed that the process of finding a new job can be a frustrating experience for individuals. When a client expresses dissatisfaction with the job searching process they are escalated to their Vice President, Dan Resendes. Mr. Resendes is in charge of the consulting department and he addresses the problems directly. Mr. Natusch stated, "should those problems not be resolved, he would bring them to my desk, and often times what happens is, we’ll reassign that person either to a new consultant that works better with that particular client, or Dan and I will take on that client ourselves."

When asked to comment on complaints posted on Ripoff Report's website Mr. Natusch expressed that the complaints on Ripoff Report vary in context, but each report doesn't effectively reflect their product, "sometimes there will be people that speak to our sales people on the phone, and will write erroneous stuff based on that discussion. For example, how can they possibly take on - if they have 2000 people applying per month, how can they possibly take care of all those people when only 50 people work there. Well, the fact is, we only take on 15 clients a month. It’s a boutique business. But they didn’t listen to that part and we get a Ripoff Report for it." In order to further assure future and current clients, The Barrett Group is a part of the PARWCC (Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches). They have an A+ with the Better Business Bureau, and on staff, have 2 certified resume writers through the Resume Writing Association of America. Additionally, they have 2 practicing attorneys on staff.

When asked what type of changes they have made to honor their commitment to making things right with the consumer per the request of Ripoff Report, Mr. Natusch stated, "we’ve constantly improved our staff and our service process. It’s a continuous method. To that end, I’d like to point out that Barrett Group has been in business for 27 years, I’ve been here for 24 years, I was formerly a satisfied client and our Vice President was formerly my client. So we are true believers in the Barrett Group’s system." He further stated that their top priority is ensuring that their employees reflect their high standards, "should we find, that members of our sales staff are lying and are representing our service to a prospective client - we fire them. And also, if a consultant does not perform up to our standards they are a process as like any other company of a written warning and that sort of thing and they would get dismissed."

You all may have heard or read on this site about any number of scams evolving Executives search firms. There is another one on the block called and The Barrett Group that promises the increases of pay, tapping that elusive unpublished market of jobs, shortening your search time, and plugging you into their network of contacts. You may not see much of this company reported with the Better Business Bureau because the owner of and The Barrett Group sits on the board of the Rhode Island BBB (as Mr. and not Dr., can't seem to find out where he acquired that title). The prices are made up as they go depending how much of a sucker the next guy is. And if you finance the total over say 3 months, be assured you will not be on any interviews before that 2nd payment has been put in their account. They even keep the funds when the client cancels a deal in the rescission period. Trust me if you are in the $125,000 plus income bracket with a great degree or two, you do not need someone to find a position for you. What is truly repugnant about these firms is that they prey on those people that are having difficult times and are on their last dollar; trust me these guys will take it anyway, what class. Most exec's are not on their last dollar it is the other company (TBG) that deals in the less that $75,000/yr, people that live paycheck to paycheck that are sold an incredible promise that will only cost them $3-4000, often their last bit of money. On the web site, you might want to question just how many of the postings are current, you'll find the explanation is it just got filled darn! I know all of this to be true as I am an X employee. I had to leave immediately upon finding these tactics to be true. And there is more that can be read on other sites like this one in the coming weeks. John Dennisport, Massachusetts

You sir, are walking a line, a very fine line.  I believe you will make a misstep and be shut down for fraud.

I'm one of your victims.  Diane (the high pressure closer), Larry Dubonio (simple), and Paula (the cube frau), gave me about $1,000 worth of service.  For this I paid $12,000.

IMO your organization is a complete scam.  Nothing more than sending out letters from mailing lists gleaned from Hoovers.

A Private Employee complaint made too public, too long ago

Despite years since this complaint was first made public (November 2004), it remains the one blemish you'll notice no other complaints prior or since on my company's reputation of providing highly successful career management services for seasoned professionals seeking a career change. Ripoff Report readers should know that this posting stemmed from an employee-employer disagreement. The accusations contained within are false, and the matter was resolved shortly after.

I would also like to add that Steven Zinno, the author's supervisor at the time and founder of, was in fact a respected member of the business community. His business partner at the time did sit on the local board of the Rhode Island Better Business Bureau. However, as with any BBB board member, they were both kept separate from the day-to-day workings of the BBB, especially if it involved our company. Steven, unfortunately, passed away in 2006.
