No Rpi-Off

AUTHOR: Mother - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 30, 2009

I have heard of some organization ripping off the the community by receiving donation and going through them and saving the stuff for themselves. but its not Caring Closet. her name is Deborah and she really is a nice lady. the reason I can say this is because. I was evicted from the resident where me and my sibling resided due to remodeling, and the new owner went up on the rent so it wasn't afforable anymore. I worked for UPS, and they referred me to Caring Closet. she told me that she hired 3 drivers and they all ran off with the trucks with donated funiture and clothing. and she didn't have any more funds to purchase a new truck. so she told me that if I could rent a U-Haul, she will give me the address to a person that was donating there funiture and clothes to her. I rented the U-Haul, I went back to Caring Closet and she gave me the address to the person. when I arrived, this sweet lady came to the door, she told me that she had some funiture that she was donating to Caring Closet. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL ROYAL BLUE PIT SET WITH A GLASS COFFEE TABLE. RECLINING SEAT AND PULL OUT BED IN GOOD CONDITION. I shill have this Pit Setand table and she gave me alot of clothes, nothing I would wear, but I gave them to Caring Closet. I applaud her for giving the clothes to the Men and Women that are coming home on Parole and referring them to Henry House for Housing. Also, I known some more good organizations that are doing good in the communities. Saving Our Seeds 114 East 47th street, for Men and Womens that are coming home on Parole, Holy Angels Outreach 4601 South Ellis, for people needs help with clothes, food, beds and drug addiction. both of these organization is going through finanical hardship due to lack of funding to help the people coming home form prison, but are still willing to help. I have been volunteering at both of these organization for the past 5 years. if anyone knows where Caring Closet has relocated to, or where Deborah is, please leave a comment, I owe here my services. THANK YOU.

Before You Tell Everybody to Butt Out.......

AUTHOR: Matthew - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 23, 2007

..keep in mind that you posted a very vaigue message on a public forum. And if you came here to hear what you want to hear, and only that, you are in for a big disappointment.

First of all, your response was beyond rude here. No need to tell people to mind their own buisness when you asked the question in the first place. Second: Take a good look at your original post. Did you explain any of the facts you did in your response...such as you working for 15 years, or how you pay full rent and whatnot?

The fact of the matter is, you wrote complaint saying how the charity keeps all the "good stuff" for themselves, and leave the junk for everybody else. That makes the general reader think that you were out looking for a mink coat rather than some basic needs for your babies. Again I make the emphasis to take a good look at your original post. Finally: when you went to the charity, did you explain your situation in a polite manner, or did you come in ranting up a storm at what they had to offer and their slow response?

Did you ever think that perhaps there are still many more people who are in even bigger need than you are? And that the charity just does not HAVE the resources to handle all the requests?

I give a nod to you taking care of your family, and doing what you can, but to plead and effective case, you have to do so in a polite and professional manner and realize that some people are going to disagree with you...especially if you do not state all the facts or backround info.

Mind your own business

AUTHOR: Mom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 22, 2007

No I don't own a computer or have cable or web services and Yes I been working for the past 15 years full time and I still work.

I was off on a family leave which you do not get paid for . every now and then people would need a helping hand. I always worked. Never received Public aide or food stamps

Everytime you people hear that a person have section 8 you assume that section 8 pays most or all of the rent

wrong again

I was just lucky enough to get a section 8 voucher once the waiting list open

and my friend although I have section 8 by me working I pay most of my rent plus light and gas, My rent is 1250 section 8 pays 250 I pay the rest.
plus light and gas, buy food, buy clothes, etc etc etc

I did a wonderful thing by taking in 3 babies under the age of 5 that was not mines, They had no clothing, no socks, to little shoes and no coats. no pampers

and I needed to get a bed mighty fast , I have 4 children of my own. which 3 has moved out on they own.

and also I taken in my sister 14 and brother 11 after my mom died

add that up I am taking care of 7 kids that is not mines and paying all the bills and also have to take care of my daughter and I

I do not get public aid, cash or food stamps for these kids and I cant put them on my section 8 grant until I become their legal guardian.

The babies was neglected in the worst way possible, I never ever used Charities this would have been the very first time. I faxed the letter from kinko and the social worker faxed it from her office with a cover sheet and her contact info

all I needed was a little assistance no need to get mean and all bend out of shape. Back in the day I knew a lot of people that worked for Charities, Like salvation Army and other places cathedral shelter and what did they do get donations and they keep the good stuck for them self and friends or sell the items out on the street

And Ms Sherri - Piedmont, California what I said must hit a nerve with you because the message was not even for you before you but in, what are you feeling guilty? do you live in Chicago, and and Ms Know it all

My letter from the social worker was legit, it came through their fax machine with their cover sheet, and again I don't have a fax machine at home.

I been running around from here to there plus I have a enlarge heart and i had the flu so I was very tired, the social worker did tell me to take the letter which they had in the envelope in person.

But when the social worker called and talked to some one from Caring Closet called and ask what did I need to get assistance they told her a letter and they she can fax it in

so thats why we faxed it

You do not know me or know why I needed help asap. This was a one time thing until I went back to work, which i am back at work now. God made a way for the kids to get clothes and a nice Church donated some food

Thank You

ASSISTANCE IS USUALLY ON A REFERRAL BASIS ...

AUTHOR: Sherri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 22, 2007

Say if you are getting other assistance, then your social worker would have to directly apply for you to services from another agency or charity. Most of these charities work that way, or otherwise, anyone could just walk off the street, say they need aid, and there would be fewer resources for people who legitimately do.

If your letter from the social worker was legit, it would have more weight with the charity coming in their envelope, their fax machine with their cover sheet, not being faxed from your home.

No offense, but you seem to have a bad case of entitlement syndrome. As another poster pointed out, you seem to have enough for a computer, a fax machine and internet service. These are not necessities.

Be Thankful You Have a Roof Over Your Head

AUTHOR: Matthew - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 22, 2007

In response to your complaint....

Out of sheer curiousity. The computer with which you sent this message from....do you own it? If you do indeed own it, then the cost of what you paid for it, as well as the internet hookup you pay for on a monthly basis could have easilly bought you a fair sized wardrobe of cloths as well as needed food.

Charities like the one you have mentioned serve the purpose of providing cloths and food to families who have lost everything in a house fire, disaster, or some other situation which left them with absolutly nothing. Be thankful you are being provided with Section 8 housing as at least you have a roof over your head and most of the financial burden taken away.

If you are in need of more income, you can always take a part time job. Even working 7 hours a week will give you money for cloths and food.
