The League app claims to be "different than the zillions of dating apps out there" — see their homepage — which is true: it is worse. I received an anonymous email saying that my account was suspended because I moved to Italy, which would be against The league's terms of service. Too bad the reality is the opposite: I left Italy, and any embassy or consulate can confirm that. I thought the email was a joke or a scam, but it was true: my account had been suspended. It is also true that I often visit Italy, simply because I am Italian and all my family still live there. But I don't see how this could be considered wrongdoing, even after rereading their terms of service, which don't mention traveling at all.

The same email said that I could contact them if I had "questions". I replied by saying that basically their undocumented claim was incorrect, but nobody responded. Lack of professionalism.

I have been a moderator on a lot of websites and online communities since 1995, and this is one of the supidest reasons I have seen to exclude a member.

So, if you are going to download The League app for iOS — I have an iPhone but it probably works on iPads too — keep in mind that you could receive an email from a person who prefers not to say who they are and who will tell you that you have moved… to Italy. They hate people who travel? They hate Italians? They just wanted to kick me out and invented an excuse? Go figure :-)

More importantly, The League app is a colossal waste of time because very few users respond or talk, in my experience less than 5%. This percentage is lower than other popular dating services, both free and subscription-based. Considering that they don't accept people who have an international career, such as me, the app turns out to be far too limiting. It is unclear whether so many mute accounts are real, or are fake, or are inactive.

My advice: you can just sign up for any other dating app or website, and save time: in fact, unless you are invited, The League app will put you on a "waitlist" for weeks, months or even years. Why wait for so long, when you can interact elsewhere right away? Also, when you find out that almost all the accounts are mute, you will realize that the "waitlist" was completely useless, and that you have been wasting your time. It is one of the very few apps in the Apple App Store (they don't have an Adroid version) that you can't use just after finishing the download.

The League of the mute women

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Monday, April 11, 2016

Interesting insights, Anthony. Thank you, I will contact Apple soon to ask if a developer is allowed to put almost all the users on a wait list while keeping their personal information and without saying this in the App Store.

In any case, as I said, the vast majority of the women (or female accounts, because we don't know if they are real) doesn't talk at all, so the app is useless anyway. My advice: don't waste your time! There are many more apps, where you can actually chat and get to know people.

Last but not least, I came across several profiles who blatantly said they were in an "open relationship", looking to "have fun". Since the app is supposed to be used by singles only, why are these people not on the wait list? Being in an "open relationship" doesn't mean being single. But maybe these accounts were fake too. What a joke.

No Android support. Did Google reject the app?

AUTHOR: Anthony - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, April 10, 2016

Apparently the owners of this app "admit" the users that they like and "put on a wait list" the users that they don't like. Since almost nobody can actually use this dating service just because the owners didn't admit them, the app violates the App Store review guidelines and I agree with Mark that it should be removed.

  • "We have over a million Apps in the App Store. If your App doesn't do something useful, unique or provide some form of lasting entertainment, or if your app is plain creepy, it may not be accepted."
  • "If you attempt to cheat the system (for example, by trying to trick the review process, steal data from users, copy another developer's work, or manipulate the ratings) your Apps will be removed from the store and you will be expelled from the developer program."

The app gets Facebook&LinkedIn data from users immediately, and then tells them that they are on a wait list. Almost all of them will be on the wait list for ever. It sounds like a scam.

Interestingly, "The League" does not support Android and the app is not in Google Play. Maybe the app was rejected?

The League app review update

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Sunday, April 10, 2016

Update: after I wrote here, they wrote again (LOL) saying they could "place me back in" — too bad nobody asked them to place me back in — if I sent them some documents. I replied that I don't send anything to a person who doesn't even say who they are.

For Mark: yes, come to think of it, the app gets all your personal data but most users are not allowed to use the app itself. This mechanism is perfect if some spammer or scammer wants to collect addresses or other personal information, or install malware. Not downloading the app is much better, since in any case almost all the women — assuming they are real — never talk.

You have been scammed by Amanda Bradford. Welcome to the club

AUTHOR: Mark - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, April 08, 2016

This app should be removed from the App store. Its creator Amanda Bradford introduces herself as an "alpha female" (!!??) in her only LinkedIn posting and uses your personal information without letting you use the app. I was put on a waitlist too and after eight months I am still there. Too bad the description in the App store doesn't say that you can't use the app after installing it. However, it is mandatory to send them both your Facebook data and your LinkedIn data. What a scam.

PS: google Amanda Bradford's post "I'm not an elitist, just an alpha female" for a laugh. Ridiculous.
