Lending Tree had a smooth talker who promised us to save hundreds off our exisiting mortgage. He said we needed 600$ down to lock in the rate, and that it would be fully refunded at the closing. He also said that there would be no money out of pocket needed for the closing because the costs would be rolled into the loan.

Next we received a call and he had "just found out" about mortgage insurance that we would have to pay, funny how a professional lender wouldn't have known about this upfront, but that would cost us another 100$ a month, reducing our savings originally promised even more. Then a few days later a lady from the bank calls saying we are 1000$ short for closing and would need to come up with it. She did eventually find a way to roll it into the loan, but we were not going to get our 600$ back. Fees kept going up.

When we complained the original smooth talker denied what he said to us, and we had him on speaker phone at my house when he did his lying, and there were 4 witness's so we know we didn't misunderstand him. He denied everything he said previously. He said he didn't say we would get our money back physically, that it would just come back to us in the form on being applied towards closing costs. This is a big fat lie. That was how he lured us in in the first place.

We were afraid of Lending Tree at this point and we cancelled out, they said the money was nonrefundable. I filled out a complaint form online addressing all my concerns. We received a call back from some guy who was slurring his speech and was reading stuff off a paper saying our complaint was denied. The things he was reading off a paper, were not even correct things we complained about.

It is obvious that this company does not care about complaints or people at all. This makes me assume that they are very aware that they are doing fraudulent bussiness tactics to lure people in. They know exactly what they are doing and somehow they are getting away with it.

Better resolution with BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU!

AUTHOR: Junior - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 01, 2008

I was having a very hard time with lending tree refunding my "totally refundable" deposit. After a year of many calls and unanswered messages to them, I knew dealing with them was a dead end. I contacted the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU thru the internet and filed a complaint. They lied in their rebuttal and my response to them let them know that I knew of many other people with similar complaints. I guess since they are registered with the BBB, they didn't want me to alert others to go to the BBB. They quickly refunded my $500 in 10 days. Because potential customers may contact the BBB to find out if they have any or many unresolved compliants, it is in their best interest not to have any open unresolved compliants when potential borrowers check the BBB's record of lending tree. It was so easy, I should have gone to the BBB in the first place. The BBB had also helped me with a big refund problem with Best Buy. Once you file the complaint, it is then that they, all of a sudden, want to comply and be ethical. So go to the BBB! It's free and it works!
