Throughout my enrollment, LARS continually failed to deliver on the education I purchased. I will cite specific examples of how LARS failed to comply with the enrolment agreement, the student catalog, and my bill of rights pursuant to their compliance with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.

A) I paid for a 900 hour recording engineering program that I did not receive. The teachers at LARS rarely provided a full class of education. With the exception of midnight classes taught by Andrew Mackenzie, the Reverend, or the teacher who taught Digital Theory every teacher would end the midnight classes around 11 pm. One particular teacher, LA, would race through the class as fast as possible, and ended class at the half way mark every class. Considering the majority of my classes we midnight classes, thats somewhere close to a quarter of education I didnt receive from this example alone. LARS failed to provide me with the 900 hours of education they agreed to provide pursuant to enrollment agreement.

B) According to The Los Angeles Recording Schools Student Catalog, The Los Angeles Recording School makes a reasonable effort to assist each graduate in seeking employment. I found the fore mentioned statement to be untrue. My career development advisor was Jean-Patrick Simeon. During my first meeting I explained to him that I wanted to pursue a career in music supervision. He informed me that my career choice didnt exist. He explained to me that the producer takes on the task of picking the music for tv and film. I went on to intern for Bulletproof Entertainment, a successful music supervision companythey found this hilarious. The catalog states When employment-related information beyond the scope of the Career Development Department is requested, every reasonable effort will be made to supply available contact information of other resources that may be able to further assist students and alumni. Although music supervision employment information should be well within the scope of the career development department, even if its not they didnt fulfill the fore mentioned promise either. They blatantly lied to me. Furthermore, Jean-Patrick left during my enrollment. I had one meeting with my career advisor. After repeated attempts to schedule a meeting with any other advisor, I purchased a book to help me build my resume and found my own internship. After a career development class one day, I voiced my grievance with career development via a evaluation form. Discussions with Steve Miller, several complaints to Career Development, and one evaluation form later, I finally received word from Jon Clayden. He took the time to look over my resume and suggest additional reading material. By this point the damage was already done. I went over six months with no help from career development what so ever.

C) The catalog also states that Our students train on industry-standard equipment. This was rarely the case. We spent many months on sub standard relics that arent used in any of the professional studios. We spent many months training on Mackie, Sony, and Behringer mixers that I have yet to see in a studio. Furthermore, of the industry-standard equipment I did have the chance to work on two of the machines had broken parts, multiple channels and a stereo bus respectively. Ill add that we were told these things didnt work the first day of class and they were never fixed the entire time we were in the class.

D) The school infringed on my right to accurate facts about job availability. When I enrolled, the enrollment advisor couldnt tell me what the percentage of graduates being placed was, but assured me that The Los Angeles Recording School had to maintain a 70% or higher to maintain its accreditation. This statement was not only inaccurate, but it was also a lie.

E) The school infringed on my right to quality faculty. Steve Miller is the biggest infringement on this right of any of the faculty. On several occasions I along with several of my peers went to him to report the problems with the faculty, and he never did anything. He would shake his head, look right at you, and smile, but month after month things remained the same. As I previously mentioned Jean Patrick in the career development department lied to me regarding my career choice and suggested I consider another avenue of employment. In one lab, two teachers who went by Big Mike and Andre would make their own beats all through class instead of helping us. They would play their music so loud I couldnt hear what I was doing with headphones on. The previously mentioned teacher LA also taught a lab I was in, but he didnt teach us anything at all. He would check us in for attendance and leave us to play with an MPC1000 that a fellow student brought in. On lecture day, he ran us through what we were supposed to be doing the whole month. LA along with one other teacher would leave us and go swimming in the motel pool down the street.

F) Lastly, the most aggresses offence was The Los Angeles Recording School promotes cheating. Right before every test, they review the test verbatim. For lectures, there is a 15 minute break between the time that they give the students the answers and when they take the test. For labs, they run the students through exactly what they have to do, and then they take turns doing it and thats the test. In several labs, for the final if students still couldnt remember exactly what they just saw, the teacher would tell them what they needed to do as was the case with LA. At the end some of the teachers would give us a grade contingent on how much they had to help us as was the case with a teacher named Joel in our Neve lab. I am a member of a facebook group page called The la recording school is a rip off. At one point a particular teacher who remained anonymous even admitted that they had to dumb down the curriculum for accreditation purposes. Unfortunately, this teacher deleted their profile along with their contributions to our page. The practice of giving the students all the answers right before they take the test is in my opinion cheating, but doing the test alongside the students and calling that their final; that IS cheating.

The Los Angeles Recording School took my money and failed to deliver what it promised in the enrollment agreement, the Student Catalog, and the Bill of Rights it committed to me pursuant to its compliance with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education.
