No doubt many of you get inserts with your utility bills that advertise a home protection plan that allegedly covers problems with your utility systems on your property. Beware! I purchased water heater protection which stated a functioning water heater would be covered up to $750 for $3.95 per month. I had the coverage for 11 months and when my water heater malfunctioned I called them thinking I was coered. They referred me to a local plumber who said the lower heating element had burned out. The drain valve had been damaged by the previous owner and since I am not a plumber I did not think that was a problem. They refused to cover the repair because they said they only cover parts under normal wear and tear. That is not what they imply when they intice people to sign up. This company loves to take money but will look for any excuse they can to not pay out. They love to use the tired old phrase of "Pre-existing conditions." I signed up for the coverage in good faith and paid for 11 months. I am not a plumbing expert and did not know that a broken drain valve would make me no longer eligible. If any of you reading this pay money to your utility company for "coverage", I would watch yourselves because you are wasting your money and the company will grasp at straws and do anything to avoid paying on a claim.
