In October, 2009, I donated $199 to the National Republican Trust. I was immediately inundated with emails from Newsmax, the League of American Voters & Gold Stock Adviser.
In March, 2010, I was offered a free trial to the Gold Stock Adviser. I accepted. Without notice, three months later I was charged $99 on my credit card for the Newsmax "Gold Stock Adviser".
I sent them the following e-mail:
I signed up for the Free gold stock advisor news letter. I have not now, nor have I ever ordered the pay service. Why is there a $99 charge on my credit card? Cease & desist all services. Where did you get my credit card number? I contributed to the National Republican Trust last year. If you got my credit card number from them, then I find this to be a fraudulent use of my private information and I want all of my personal information removed from your databases and to stop sending me any emails from NRT, Newsmax & all affiliates. Please process my refund as soon as possible.
Their response:
Looks like you clicked on a 3 month free trial back in March and when it wasnt cancelled after the trial it was presumed you wanted to renew. This email confirms that we have cancelled your subscription and a refund of $99 has been remitted back to your credit card. Please allow 3-5 business days for this transaction to go through.

My reply:
Karen, I appreciate the refund.
What most concerns me is how you got my credit card number. Can you answer that please?

How can one entity share my credit card number with another entity without my express written permission?

The National Republican Trust is absolved of any wrong doing.
The League of American Voters is somehow affiliated with Newsmax.

How did Newsmax get my credit card number?
Rec: Thu, 5 Aug 2010 10:03:49 -0400 Subject:
Im guessing when you placed an order for something previously. It also stated when you placed the order for the Gold Stock Advisor trial that if you decided to keep the subscription that we would just charge the credit card on file.

I never ordered anything from Newsmax. That's why I'm so worried. I donated money to the National Republican Trust & the League of American Voters. Afterwhich, I was then flooded with Newsmax emails. Did you get my credit number from them? If not, please track it down.

I think we solved it, League of voters was your first order.

That was a donation, not an order. How is Newsmax affiliated with the League? How would I know that they are affiliated? Seems like fraud. Please delete my personal & credit card data.
