I saw an ad in a local newspaper promising free tickets to watch The Price is Right in Los Angeles. I promptly called the number, since I frequently travel to California and other nearby cities. Interestingly no one answered when I called, I reached an answering machine device and so I left a message.

Two days later I received a phone call from a man who identified himself as Bob Barker. He told me that I could have the free tickets to sit in the studio audience, however, I would have to pay a $99 processing fee, and also pay $587 for an airline ticket through his company.

Apparently the ticket to The Price is Right is only FREE when you pay a hefty processing fee AND an airline ticket is purchased as well. This was never stated in the ad that I saw and responded to. I have to wonder if this is some kind of a scam, and if this guy I talked to, Mr. Barker, is as legitimate as he claimed to be. Buyer Beware, if this IS some kind of scam indeed. Don't fall for it! And whatever you do, DON'T send any money!

Is this Report for real?

Paul,You mean to tell us that Bob Barker called you?I didn't know that he made those kind of calls personally.I think that if I received a call like that my scammer alarm would have sounded immiediatly. There have been many people who have visited TPIR over the years and loved every moment of it.If you are thinking of suing Bob Barker, you will have to get in line..I believe there are about 1000 people ahead of you.Bob Barker called you?The same Bob Barker from Truth or Consequences??I smell a rat somewhere.

You're kidding?

AUTHOR: Shaun - (U.S.A.)

You called CBS and asked to talk to Bob Barker? Well, obviously they are going to laugh at you. The only people who would call a public number and ask to talk to Bob would be prank calls and people who just aren't as smart as other people. Price is Right wouldn't resort to putting an ad in the newspapers just to get people in their studio audience. Price is right makes SO much money on the prizes that they give away, and the commercials that they sell, make WAY more money then any other time during the day.

So what have you learned from this situation? You did NOT speak to Bob, nor anyone else from CBS. So call up the local authorities and give them the phone number that you called, and let them deal with it. You didn't lose any money, you're just getting annoyed, so let the police deal with it.

TPIR Ripoff? You're kidding, right?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Paul, I think whomever is calling you and claiming to be Bob Barker is a hoax. If you have caller ID, you may be able to find out where the call is coming from (323 is the area code for CBS Television City).

In my four years here in Los Angeles, and having been to CBS Television City myself, I know for a fact that the tickets to see TPIR at Studio 33 are free. And I know that Bob Barker would not resort to things like this.

Basically, folks, if you want to see TPIR in Los Angeles, do what Rich Fields (the announcer) says or if you live in Southern California, contact CBS Television City or go to their website.

Paul, just relax... For over 40 years he has entertained ?

Paul

I cannot believe for one second Bob Barker and or any member of the Price is Right program has anything to do with this so called scam.

I have looked into the tickets, they are free, but you do have to get there. I don't believe Bob is in the travel business.

For over 40 years he has entertained America and his show is still the #1 game show in TV history.

Bob is one of the good guys in life who brings smiles to millions of faces every day.

Paul, come on down and just chill

Scammed again!

I received another call today from the same man who identified himself as Bob Barker. They do not give up! This time he offered me a "discounted rate" of $99 plus tax for the airline ticket/game show ticket combination deal. All down from $587 originally! I reported this to CBS Studios in California per the rebuttalist's suggestion, but they were extremely rude and rather laughed hautily when I requested to speak with Bob Barker regarding his scam-like sales pitches. Everyone nationwide - beware!!! This is a major interstate scam!!

Game show tickets are always free

I live in California and have attended numerous tapings of game shows including the Price is Right. There is NEVER any charge to attend the tapings. As a matter of fact, if you have a big enough group, they will even pay you to watch the shows being taped (They want to make sure they have a full studio audience). I believe, but am not certain, that contestants who try out for the show have to pay for their own travel to the show, but do not have to buy it through a specific company. I think you have been ripped off. By the way, Bob Barker would never have the time to call you. You have been scammed. I am sure that CBS and the Price is Right production company would love to hear from you. Just call directory information and ask for the number for CBS studios in Los Angeles where Price is Right is taped.
