Where to start??
My wife and I bought several peices from The Room Place, we have so many problems that i dont think this little box to write in will hold it all. I will just go with the most recent happenings.
We bought a dining room set in august 2008, we purchased the "5 year warranty" on all the peices as well. It totalled near $700 and was the only table set we could fit in our nook and the color we wanted. several months passed with little/ no issues but one day my son spilled a drink on the fabric of the seat so we called the warranty company and the sent a furniture repair company out to clean the fabric. while he was here cleaning he notice scratches on the table top and wrote them down and asked if he could go ahead and submit those to the room place for repairs. he informed us that he would more than likely need the table after christmas to refinished the table and we should hear from the room place within a couple weeks about a time for him to pick it up. a month passes with out hearing anything, until we received a letter stating that the room place and warranty company have agreed to replace the table. We where happy with that and made plans to visit the local room place over the weekend to get another one on its way. Now is where all hell starts breaking loose. We get to the room place and ask for a manager thinking they would know best about what is needing to be done, he agrees and looks in the system to get one ordered. but wait theres a problem, guess what? the table set as a whole is no longer made and sold out in all stores and warehouses....really? yes thats right SOLD OUT/DISCONTINUED. So he calls customer care to ask what was needing to be done and they inform him that infact there were no more nordic tables left in there system and they would not be getting more. WOW ok so whats next? they tell us to pick another table out at the same cost that we payed. ok hunny lets take a look around. they inform us we have to stay under $212 anything over is our responsability, so we look around for a wood table that matched our chairs. nothing. we are now told to take a look online to see if one on there matches. nothing. not only do they not have a table that is natural in color, but they dont have a table that would fit in our nook. the manager recommends we look a glass tables??? now if we wanted glass i would think maybe we would have bought glass instead of wood a few months prior. I have 2 toddlers and really dont think glass was or is a real big idea. besides that glass does NOT match wood.
We inform the manager that in no way shape, form or manner will we settle for something that does not match. He says that the warranty company will only pay/approve for the table not anything else. outragious. so we go several months round and round about them replaceing the entire set or refund all money including all interest paid. they will do neither. I contact the BBB and a few weeks go by and i receive a responce that now they will replace the entire set for something instock of our choosing with similar price point anything over we pay the difference anything under they pay us, perfect i said we will come by and take a look. My wife and I stopped by and found something that was just right for what we needed. we ordered it and was told by the manager that it would be delivered tuesday between 8am-12pm and they would take the old set back at that time as well, awesome. We get a call sunday confirming this and i asked for the day off so i will be there to get the new table. tuesday rolls up and knock knock, "room place, we are here to pick up a table set", i say yep you have my new set correct? guess what,NO they didnt even know about a new set, so the call customer care and confirm my new order but....they are backordered on the chairs and should be ready for delivery next week, i refuse them taking my old table as i would have nothing to eat on if they took it, several weeks go by with no calls to make delivery time. i call and find out it could be up to a month now before they get them in stock. at this point my wife and i are upset but really dont get to upset as we do still have something to eat on while we wait, it could be worse i guess. fast foward to now, and yes we finally received the new table set. but my son who has autism stepped on one of the the leg supports trying to get in the chair, SNAP. i look at my wife and say look at the warranty to see if its covered, it is. so we call the warranty company to make arrangements for repair. out of business. yep no longer a valid company. we call room place and they direct us to customer care. oh god here we go again, and yep that has never been a truer statemant. they agree to replace one chair, but guess what??....you'll never get this.......im sorry guys but it appears your table set is no longer carried/made and we are all sold out.......please select another chair from what we have in stock.....hold on heres the punch line. wait for it,....wait for it....nothing matches, i mean how could it? i understand trying to match a table to a chair but a chair to a chair, now come on....i have 6 chairs and they think a customer would be remotly ok with 5 chairs in one style/color and 1 odd ball out??? wow this company is all about scamming and lying and making you regret you ever saw there bright green sign. PLEASE stay away from the room place, quality and customer service receive an F-, hustling and scamming A+++. STEER CLEAR...
I will update as this all pans out, i am sure some details have been left out, there is alot to remember over a course of a year and a half of hell. but as of 2/11/10 no issue has been resolved...waiting on call from customer care...
