We ordered shutters from this company twice.  They were very slow about their work, but finally delivered.  You could never get them on the phone and would take a week to return your call with excuses.  We gave them a down payment for $850.00, but never received the third order.  Out of business now.  This Bill Wallace was very cool and very dishonest.  Talked a good game.  Words to wise, there were early signs that things could go south in a hurry.  Some helpful hints for the future.  Use a credit card for your payment and never a down payment.  Payment in full only when job is complete.  You now have some leverage because they need to get it done so they can get paid. If you use a credit care, if they don't deliver, then refuse the credit card charges and it goes back to them.  I know, I was a small business owner for 28 yrs.  If they do work on your home and you refuse to pay, they can file a lien on  the property and you would have to clear that in order to sell .  Be smart when you do business with anyone.  Remember, keep it business like.  Everyone is not your buddy.  If they need a down payment, they are working on a shoe string budget and using weak business practices.

Down Payment is required on custom products!

AUTHOR: JEmard - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 03, 2012

I first want to say that I'm sorry you were pretty much screwed over, however I wanted to explain why a company would ask for a deposit or half down.  Having a family business that's been around since 1941 that sells custom products (like shutters) you would always get half down.  Shutters or any other custom made product are just that...CUSTOM!  They are made specifically for that end user.  If the customer would change their mind then you would have the money to cover your cost on the "custom" product.  You might be right that this company had cash flow problems...hence the business closing and they took your money and ran.  Good luck in the future!
