Complaint Review: The UPS Store

  • The UPS Store
    32818 Walker Rd.
    Avon Lake, Ohio
    United States of America

Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

We rented a mailbox from the UPS store in Avon Lake Ohio.  We have recently moved.  We notifyed this store to forward our mail to our new address.  The clerk put the wrong address on it and now our mail is lost/stolen.

We had it sent via UPS ground delivery.  We gave the clerk our visa number and she got that correct and charged us immediately for the service.

UPS requires that this store send them a 'return service label' in order for them to search for the package.  After numerous phone calls and emails, they still are refusing to do this.

Numerous calls to the store requesting that it's owner, Scott Sweress, call us have gone unanwsered.

The package that was lost contained bank  statements, social security numbers, etc.

Now we have to spend at least $80 for court costs, traveling expenses and time off from work in order to sue them for gross negligence and to try and get them to have UPS put ad lost package search on this item.

I can't wait to get these criminals in court

Too much credit

AUTHOR: Ramjet - (U.S.A.)

UOmenithin, this was a good post.

I wonder though, if you give him too much credit. He may well be nothing but a low level troll who deserves no attention at all.

699? Another reflection of both rik's intellect and attention to detail?

AUTHOR: UOmenothin - (USA)

rik says, "699 errors." Does he feel other readers aren't capable of noticing the 699 number? rik does feel that readers aren't intelligent enough to make their own decisions of where or where not to do business.

Amongst many other distasteful attributes, rik now wants to show he has a concrete type personality (not that concrete is worse than any other type). 699, ok. rik sees 699; rik is only capable of thinking 699. Obviously, "699" is the number of hits that the search engine finds the letters "ups". In less than a minute, I scanned back the entire year of 2011 and found twenty "ups" company related hits. Why hasn't rik excluded the use of "ups" in repeated ROP's from the same person about the same incident? There are four complaint repetitions from rik's buddy alone about the controversial incorrect address in this ROP. Why is rik also including such hits as "ups backup" power systems?  rik is also including hits for the common word "ups", ie: sign ups, hang ups, pop ups, etc. rik actually feels these should be included in his own personal vendetta? It's also way beyond rik to exclude the hit "ups" when it means the UPS shipping company, but only as a shipping reference to elaborate on a complaint regarding a completely different company or person.

All rik has shown thus far, more than what any complaint is regarding, is his obsessive need to degrade others. If rik was capable of spending less effort degrading others, he might actually gain respect by offering a courteous and productive solution or insight. Unfortunately, he can't. What rik can do very well is make it so clear that he has a nasty inferiority complex. rik is compelled to try to bring other's down to his level with his vain degradation. rik has a complex with other's that have sacrificed and saved, risked that life savings, earned an education, and worked extremely hard to earn an honest middleclass living. These people across the nation, that rik has never met, are far more decent than rik has thus far ever tried to be. With the level of education that rik holds, the words he needs to use include "idiot", "moron", "scumbag", and many more including racial slur. The message rik conveys here is the same used by stereotypical 'trailer trash', childish rebellionism, alcoholic, or mentally disturbed individuals. Why does rik choose to sound like these sort of people? His intent to have anyone pay him any heed clearly shows his bitterness and hatred for others, as well as his extremely damaged self esteem.

At the end of the day, rik, when the computer's are shut down, while your kiddy pics and irrational slander take a rest, after the showers and teeth brushing, the decent hard-working folk are comfortable with what they see in the mirror. If they had to see in that mirror what you see behind your scruff and in your eyes, they would vomit. No one is forcing you to be so miserable, rik. It's purely your decision to be so.

Another loon who thinks everyone here is an employee

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States of America)

Whoopdi doopdi doo! Another loon who thinks everyone who answers posts here is an employee. Hey, Robert. Have you set a record yet for most jobs held at one time? I'm still waiting for my first paycheck from that dollar store developer. I don't think I'll ever see it.

You never answered my question.

AUTHOR: UOmenothin - (USA)

You have indicated reading readers responses, but you didn't answer the question I had in big red letters: How does possible human error make a person a "criminal"?

Can you name anyone that goes through a day without making a simple mistake like switching two numbers? Does a simple human error by an employee of one business make every human being even remotely associated to that business anywhere across the nation, or planet for that matter, the same "moron", "dumb idiot", "scumbag", and "criminal" as you have so rationally stated as being fact? (There's a non-flattering definition describing the personality that obsesses with the use of such adjectives.) Are you a perfect human being that never makes a mistake, knows all, and compassionately understands every flaw in other's? If so, how does condemning other's make you a perfect person? To reader's, it's YOU that seems to be the outcast with your extremely distasteful personality.

You also never bothered indicating whether the new address was verbally relayed to that shipping business. If it was, readers will always wonder if you, with all your self-induced problems, verbally stated the address incorrectly. One indication or your problem, if this complaint is not bogus altogether, is that you "requested that my mail be forwarded...on 6/28", yet you 'spoke' with the manager "atleast 3 times" the very NEXT day! What is your problem?? The first time you inquired about the shipment, the shipper would have told you that packages can be delivered up to 7:00pm and later to residences. Why were you being such a pest while the package was still under normal transit time?

You gave them your CC#, so they did not have it on file for previous mail forwarding. While you are "somewhat handicapped", how were you getting your mail from the UPS Store? You were able to get the mail from the UPS Store, but had absolutely no means to go next store to an abandoned location to see if it was there? Even if you live in a shady part of town that little mailer could have laid there for weeks. Still, you had no friends, family, or aquaintences that could possibily help you out? ( that any wonder?) Considering similar unsecured mail is delivered to your many neighbors mailboxes everyday, it's hard to imagine such paranoia over your one single mailing.

Though you're concerned over theft of your mailing to the abandoned location next door, you simultaneously accuse the UPS Store's "behavior is so highly suspect". Suspect of what?? So whom exactly are you accusing? A clerk, owner, UPS delivery man, UPS corporate? For some odd reason, you indirectly accused the potential thief that would take your package off the porch (as he could from any residential mailbox), yet did not include the mythical thief in your derogatory name-calling list.

Now...the convenient cop-out. You didn't bother making your claim legitimate with a tracking number, but everything is suddenly fine. After your elaborated enthusiasm with the goal in your life of sueing the UPS Store, you make no mention of following up with the negligence accusation. No UPS "manager" delivers packages and complaining here was NOT the reason your mailing address was corrected. Seriously, it is extremely unlikely that any person anywhere is going to not patronize any business complained about here jst because you have a tantrum and try telling other's what they should or shouldn't do. Perhaps you have learned that the ONLY means to have your address corrected after delivery was for that shipping business to call UPS and schedule a pickup. If they didn't, it would still be laying there a few yards away from you on that porch that is so hard for you to get to. I'm guessing that that UPS Store, though fed up with your mentality, exercised a courtesy service and a courtesy expense to have your package picked up from your abandoned neighbor next door and delivered all the way to your house a few yards away. All this commotion, because you cannot accept the fact that you very possibly recited your NEW less familiar address incorrectly to the UPS Store, then spewed the same disgusting crap in their ear as you have here over the simple error.

You and that rik character, which also sounds like he's somewhat handicapped, should team up! You guys are two peas in a pod. If you did, bet you could be best buds. Only problem would be, as is inevitable with personalities like yours, it's only a matter of time until one of you steals or cheats on the other simply because that's how you treat everyone else. Good luck with your next blowhard endeavor lawsuit. It also will never happen. If you don't make a dramatic change in yourself, the only thing that is guaranteed to happen is that you will wither up and die a wasted life. Your only self-proclaimed accomplishment will have been your perfected ability to condemn your fellow human beings.

Do you feel you yourself conduct life flawlessly in action and attitude? Would this world be a better place if everyone had your attitude? If not, then every adjective you've used against other's needs to be directed back in your face. Ever, for one brief moment, consider that there might be an area about yourself that needs improvement? Unless you feel you are superior to everyone else, as it appears you have a dire and ugly need to do so, then I ask again: How does possible human error make a person a "criminal"? Are you a criminal?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Just because someone posts something you don't like does not automatically make them an employee.   I can only speak for myself and tell you that I am not now or ever have been an employee of a UPS store or even any shipping companies at all.

If you idiot's could read, you would see the difference.
- And just how are we supposed to "see" the difference.  Both of you talk about the same situation and use almost identical phrasing.  In fact both reports are written by "Lee" from Ohio.

It is gross negligence because they refuse to provide the service that we paid for, and  I could sue them for any future damages cased by their negligence
- Please take this as some friendly advise.  If you go in claiming "gross negligence" you are going to have to prove that they are negligent.  Unless you have some "secret weapon" that you haven't mentioned that is going to be a big uphill battle for you to convince a judge.

You still haven't even specified who notified them or how they were notified about this change of address?

I will need to hire an aide to file the court case and also drive me back to Avon Lake for the court case if my son is not available.
- Why do I think that for some reason your son won't be available and you are going to add that money to the suit as well.

All these little extra's I am going to sue The UPS Store for. And the bill is getting larger.
Today, 7/1, I filed a complaint with the FTC.

- And just how much are you going to add to the suit for filing with the FTC?

On a more serious note, if you truly think you have been a victim of a crime go down and file a Police Report for Identity Theft.  You can then take that report and place a Fraud Alert on your credit report for FREE.  So even if someone does have your information and attempts to open a credit account it will be stopped because it will require the credit companies to do additional verification that it is in fact you requesting the credit.

Then when you do file suit please post the court and docket number here so we can all follow it.

Package received!

About 40 minutes ago a manager from United Parcel Service just delivered the 'Lost' package.

It pays to complain.

I will never use the services of a UPS Store again.  Why couldn't they just do what they were paid to do.

Too scary!

Just like I thought, there was a check in the package for my son $102 from the state of Texas.

I always liked texas.

My son can use this money to sue the company he just quit for bouncing his last paycheck of $903.

Thank you rip off report!

to the people who responded to my report

I know that some of the person's who responded to my report are employee's of this UPS store at 32818 walker rd., avon lake, oh. Unenvolved consumer's would have never responded in this manner.

For your information I made one complaint on Rip off Report and so did  my son.  We both had a mailbox rental  at this store and it was my son's credit card that was used to pay for the service of forwarding our mail.  If you idiot's could read, you would see the difference.
My court case will be  for the following:  UPS ground delivery will not locate  this  package nor will they do anything to correct the situation without the say so of the SENDER WHICH IS THE UPS STORE.

It is gross negligence because they refuse to provide the service that we paid for, and  I could sue them for any future damages cased by their negligence.  They literally stole money from my sons credit card but did not provide the services.  Sending a package to the wrong address and not correcting the error is theft of money, and failure to provide the services we paid for.

****Yes it will be one of the highlights of my life when I meet them (you) in court because I am 63 years old and I cannot walk, I will need to hire an aide to file the court case and also drive me back to Avon Lake for the court case if my son is not available.

All these little extra's I am going to sue The UPS Store for. And the bill is getting larger.
Today, 7/1, I filed a complaint with the FTC.

To the above poster

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

The OP has posted multiple reports and over time changed the story slightly.

In the previous reports they said that the Clerk transposed two numbers, and as a result this package ended up at an porch of an abandoned resturant.  But then the OP goes on to say that they don't even know for sure if it did because they are disabled and can't even go next door to verify if the package was even there.  They even make it appear as if they couldn't go to their door to see if by chance the "porch" it was left on was theirs.  Also, from that post the "I" has all of the sudden turned into "we" and one has to wonder what happened to the "we" in the other post.

Now, if in fact the clerk made an honest mistake and transposed two numbers, I really think this person is going to have a hard time going to court claiming "gross negligence".  If the OP gave him the numbers over the phone what proof does the OP have that they didn't transpose the numbers of their NEW address?  Did the OP even ever confirm if the address that they think was written on the package even exists?

By the way for the OP.  The USPS forwards mail for FREE.

How does possible human error make that person a "criminal"?

AUTHOR: UOmenothin - (USA)

Assuming human error by an employee at that shipping location, why are you calling him a criminal? The items forwarded were unsecured everyday USPS mail, which includes bank and SS# info, and are commonly lost or misdirected through USPS all the time. By your definition, people would have to sue their post office out of existance.

How was the address incorrect? Were #'s in the street address inverted? Was the mail forwarded to your old address rather than your new one? Did you convey the address by written document or phone? That would open up the issue of a communication misunderstanding, which still makes no one a criminal. Frankly, there must be more to this store considering the owner doesn't place the simple pickup request at the address to which the mail was forwarded.

Good luck with the court case. Sounds like you're really looking forward to it as a highlight of your life. Keep us informed of the progress and results! We're curious if the anything will be different than we foresee.
