DYSPLASIA DOGS.  STAY AWAY!! STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!  ANOTHER DOG SIRED BY GONZO WITH DYSPLASIA!!!!

Our first impressions of Thinschmidts and Michele were wonderful. The training facility seemed nice and the office had pictures of several celebrities on it. Michele seemed so personable and took the time to bring several of the breeding dogs in for us to look at. She also gave us a short description of their personalities (ex Babette is their resident blonde valley girl type). We got to be puppy socializers for a bit and play with some of their current puppies. After being star struck and covered in puppies we excitedly put down our deposit and looked forward to picking up our new little family member in a few months.

At eight months old our puppy was diagnosed by a Board Certified vet with hip DYSPLASIA. We informed them immediately, as required by the contract & CA state law. Michele told me in their 30+yrs breeding they had never had a dysplasia diagnosis...which after reading reviews on YELP & other places we have found to be a very very false statement, they have been aware for years that DYSPLASIA has been running through their dogs.  They said we would have to turn our dog (our family member by that time) back into them. Per CA state puppy lemon law (leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/d…) it is the purchasers choice (aka OUR choice, not theirs) whether we keep our pup or turn them back into the breeder.

We requested that they follow the CA law in letting us keep our dog and they pay the medical bills we incurred up to 150% of the purchase price of the dog.  Their vets agreed with our vets diagnosis of hereditary hip DYSPLASIA. Michele claimed the DYSPLASIA was "not extreme enough" to be covered by their contract. I find this sad.  PER CA LAW, a puppy only has to have a hereditary condition that adversely affects the health of the dog now or is likely to in the future. DYSPLASIA no matter how mild or extreme adversely affects the health and wellbeing of the dog. There is no mention of extreme or mild in the law, the dog simply just needs to be diagnosed with it. Michele has been extremely unprofessional and at times has been outright hostile towards us.  She's threatened both us and our vet.

I wish I had realized that German SV rating of FAST NORMAL is BORDERLINE in the American standards rating of the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals OFA and that most breeders will not use a Fast Normal dog in breeding due to the risks of DYSPLASIA. I would NEVER select parents that have that rating ever again. The ratings can be found on the website: offa.org . Per Thinschmidts' own website: out of their three studs, one is fast normal (Gonzo); out of 16 females, two are rated fast normal (Anica & Pallas) AND FOUR (25%) have NO ratings listed at all (Yana, Sayla, Helen & Ilka).

A puppy can never "grow out" of a DYSPLASIA diagnosis. Once diagnosed, DYSPLASIA will progressively worsen as they grow and age; it is a CHRONIC AND PROGRESSIVE hereditary disease that CANNOT be cured. Do your research before selecting a puppy!!! offa.org

Do yourself a favor & STAY FAR AWAY from this place. If you already have a deposit down on a puppy WALK AWAY trust me you don't want to have to deal with them if you too end up with a DYSLPASIA puppy or puppy with another hereditary defect.  I wouldn't wish Michele and all the hell we've been through on our worst enemy.  Find a reputable breeder.  We gain nothing from posting our experience.  Facts are facts.

So many lies

AUTHOR: GSDFanShan - ()

POSTED: Saturday, December 13, 2014

I do not understand why the owner wants to continuously point fingers at every bad review online and say they are all written by the same person.

On Yelp, in October the owner tried to claim I was another Yelp user by the name of Fred.  Two weeks later she had a change of heart and was no longer claiming I was Fred.  In November, the owner then tried to claim I was another Yelp user by the name of Alli.  I'm now waiting to see who else she will claim that I am.  I have print outs of the many times she accused me of being someone else.  Now she is trying to claim I am this couple.  I can post the many times she has claimed me to be someone else online here if someone from Ripoff report can tell me how to do this or I can email them to anyone who would like to see them.

All she has accomplished in this is showing she chooses not to take responsibilty for her business and showing there are many dogs that she has bred that have dysplasia.  We are not all the same people.  Read each individual review....they are all different other than the dogs having genetic health issues and Thinschmidt doing everything in their power not to honor their contract & STATE LAW!

She likes to point fingers instead of solve problems.  My husband and I spent months emailing and calling with no response from her.  (I can provide the emails and the call log showing the numerous calls).  Now with the negative online reviews instead of attempting to privately contact us to solve the issues she wants to do is publically pretend we are someone else.

Check Yelp, the people reviewing them are responding to her lies.  We are all frustrated with the unethical way the owner chooses to go about things.  Take responsibility for your dogs and follow your own contract and California State LAW!!!

Just do yourself a favor and stay away from these people if you are looking for a trustworthy business.

Thinschmidt German Shepherds

AUTHOR: Thinschmidt - ()

POSTED: Monday, November 10, 2014

We strongly feel a public comment is necessary so we can help to educate others visiting this website.  We desire to resolve differences rather than to cause harm.   For these this post, we would like to share our side of the story.  ((REDACTED)))  purchased a beautiful German Shepherd male named Boss from us back in 2013.  They moved to South Carolina and discovered their dog had "elbow dysplasia" at 8 months old.  Rather than contacting us first, they went ahead and performed the surgery on an 8 month old puppy on Sept 10th 2013. As breeders, we have the right to a second vet opinion of our choice to verify the dog does in fact have "dysplasia". The owner made contact with our office on Sept 11th to let us know his dog had an issue [knowing full well the dog already had surgery done 1 day prior to contacting us]. When we asked for a 2nd opinion to ensure the dog had it severely so we could cover our warranty and adhere to the CA Health & Safety code (right to a 2nd and unbiased opinion), we grew suspicious when they didn't provide a 2nd opinion xray after this date. We called their vet and found out the surgery was done one day prior to them contacting us, without giving us the right to a 2nd unbiased opinion.   Although this completely voided their contract, which they signed and agreed to, we still offered to take the dog back and give them a full refund.  They declined and hired a lawyer to sue us instead.

Although we cannot undue these actions, we feel bending our policy for this couple would not be justifiable.  We understand we cannot please everyone and some people may get upset when we adhere to our policies. With this being said, we are disappointed we could not come to an amicably agreement.

Most large dogs, including German Shepherds may develop dysplasia even with parents with excellent OFA and/or A Stamped hips and elbows and is the reason we cover dysplasia.   People should know this before considering a large breed dog. We've experienced thousands of happy families who purchased their dog from us over the past 40 years and found most positive people and reviewers don’t make a habit to post online.

We posted just a few reviews below:

1. I have just purchased my new puppy from Thinschmidts & I couldn't be happier!! He is well trained and has the best disposition. He is healthy, happy and the smartest dog I've ever had and he's still a puppy. Michele and Robert are very professional as well as being really nice to deal with. I highly recommend this facility and their training package if you want a really great German Shepherd. He has been a wonderful addition to our family. Our other dog and our kids love him. Thank you Thinschmidt!!!

2. I can't say enough about how great this place is, professional, friendly, and just fantastic. We even came out to there place without an appointment, without hesitation they took us inside and told us all about what they do and how they are trying to improve the breed. They showed us all of there breeding dogs and there puppies. The most impressive thing was how the dogs were these menacing dogs just come to you and lay down right in front of you. We chose Lena because of how grocco and Niekie were, just calm. They showed us there training program for there puppies and we couldn't say no..... It is so worth the money. While waking my dog people ask me how old and when a say only six months people are shocked at how she behaves, staying by your side...

I would highly recommend these wonderful people to pair you with your perfect dog.
Thanks everyone on the thinschmidt tea!

3 We purchased our 3 1/2 year old German Shepherd when he was 8 weeks old from Thinschmidt. They trained him and we brought him home at 12 weeks. Unbelievable, all I do is feed him twice a day. He has never forgotten his training and is the best behaved, most well mannered dog around. Adding a dog to our family is a 12+ year commitment and I am sincerely glad we found Thinschmidt. They are well worth considering if you are looking for a great dog to become part of the family.
