Word of Warning

I bought some exploding targets off a guy in a gravel pit called Andrew. They were called Thundershot. He seemed trustworthy and claimed he made it locally. He assured me it was safe and when I asked him about distance, calibres and fire etc. Anyhow the first target didn't work which I guess was a godsend as the second one caused a fire which spread to my hay field.

With all of the wildfires spreading across Canada this guy should be ashamed of himself, not only does the product cause fires he lies about the risks! I sincerely hope no one else gets screwed by Thundershot Exploding Targets and Andrew.

Thundershot caused your hay field to burn? I smell BS.....

AUTHOR: J.R. - (Canada)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 26, 2018

I just had to comment on this report. I am also a farmer in Manitoba near Winnipeg and have a few issues with this report. I am a cattle farmer and I know BS when I smell it. I am an avid user of thundershot (which I get at Heights Archery on Portage Ave) and I smell a rat here. I have used cases of thundershots and have done my due diligence when it comes to educating myself on them. First off, there are two possibilities here. First possibility, you are telling the truth and you are who you say you are and you started a fire in your field. Second possibility, you are lying and have some personal issue with this Andrew guy.

For the first possibility, look at the date of the post and the ground conditions. We have had two months of rain here and my hay fields are cut but still green and wet. There is no way to light these fields on fire even with a blow torch. If you did happen to find enough dry area to start a fire shooting at a thundershot then the most likely culprit is your bullet. Did you know the temp of a bullet leaving the barrel can be around 800 degrees and retain a high temp for over a minute? What do you think happens when a hot bullet comes to rest in a pile of tinder dry debris? Copper bullets are the worst for this. And they cause more fires than the general public understands. The US govt has done studies on this and the data is readily available. Now lets consider the possibility that the target did start the fire. What kind of idiot detonates an explosive in an area that is a fire hazard? Someone with absolutely no common sense. If you started a fire you were doing something wrong. It's shooters like you that give our community and shooting/hunting culture in Manitoba a bad name. You won't man up and take responsibility for doing something stupid. If there was a fire, it was all your fault for not being responsible, don't try to blame a binary target. You're a farmer for heavens sake...you should know your land and terrain.

For the second possibility (which I feel is much more likely considering the facts), you have some personal issue with a guy named Andrew who makes thundershot and there was no fire. Don't take your frustration and problems out on a product that a lot of us enjoy using in a responsible way. It's irresponsible comments like this that cause our government officials to over react. These targets already have enough restrictions on them. Don't put BS out there that negatively affects our shooting community. Take your problem to this guy face to face like a man and leave my toys alone! It's irresponsible and immature behavior like this that makes me despise the internet. Hey winnipegfarmer (I strongly doubt that you are a farmer at all), that's a nice picture of a big fire you attached to the post...too bad it is of a forest fire and not a hay field...maybe find a better stock photo if you want to create a lie. You are a fear-mongering irresponsible person. You use the tragedy of the forest fires across Canada to emphasize your story. You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. I would like to hear from this Andrew that you are talking about.

Andrew, if you read this post please chime in and let us know what the deal is here. I read on tannerite's website that they don't start fires. They say they are actually an oxygen 'robber' and can be used to put out fires. I don't know if I believe that, any explosive can cause a fire given the right conditions. A rock can be ejected as shrapnel and strike another rock that causes sparks. There are many different scenarios for this. That is why we shooters always need to know the terrain, the backdrop, and the firearm/ammo. And we always need to use common sense (which apparently isn't too common). You simply don't shoot at anything in an area that could be considered a fire hazard, and you don't slander a product when you are the one to blame. And if you just don't know any better, please sell your firearms...all of them, and leave the shooting to those with the cognitive ability to make the right decisions.

Please. J.R. in EastMan (p.s. - winnipegfarmer please feel free to let us know which pits you saw this Andrew at and where the fire was. I would like to confirm this fire took place. It would really help your story. I'm not calling you a liar (yet) but your story just doesn't add up. If you can give me proof then I will post an ardent apology to you for not believing your story. But you would still be completely irresponsible and at fault for causing a fire in an area that was unsuitable for using explosive targets)

Buddy of mine told me Thundershot Exploding Targets caused this fire in Fort Mac. I'm not sure why these Thundershot Targets ignite stuff but seems like they are pretty bad.
