Beware of this puppy breeder! We were sold a 5 month old English Cream Golden Retriever puppy who was contractually promised to eligible for limited-AKC registration. Despite months of promises that he would registered by the aforementioned breeder, he is still not. They claim a dispute with another breeder is at stake but we are starting to doubt the true lineage of this puppy. Their contract and website promised a healthy puppy. Ours came with diarrhea (shortly after found to have giardia), fleas, and severe skin allergies (not disclosed prior to purchase). They also claim and promise that the dog has had thousands of dollars of professional training and will be able to perform basic obedience skills. Our puppy jumped on people, pulled on the leash excessively, would not reliably lie down and tried to chew up car seats.

This disreputable breeder's track record of disputes with buyers and other breeders is coming to light. They are very nice when you are writing the check, then won't respond in a timely manner to concerns (and eventually stop responding at all except to the threat of legal action). Find another Golden Retriever breeder.

Ventura County Star News Story:Golden Meadows Retriever Kennels passes AKC Inspection

AUTHOR: golfbuddy - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, October 24, 2009

Golden Meadows Retrievers Kennel in Moorpark has passed its American Kennel Clubs compliance inspection certifying that it remains a top-notch facility.

The AKC inspector passed Golden Meadows "with no issues."

According to the AKC website, "The AKC is the only purebred registry in the United States with an ongoing routine kennel inspection program. The AKC has a dedicated team of field inspectors who visit kennels to ensure the proper care and conditions of AKC-registered dogs and verify that breeders are maintaining accurate records for their dogs. In 2007, AKC field inspectors conducted approximately 5,600 inspections nationwide. The AKC dedicates nearly $6 million annually to its compliance programs to ensure the accuracy of its registry and the care and conditions of dogs raised by breeders of AKC dogs.

AKC inspectors check the dogs, their identification records and their breeder records. "Inspectors enforce the AKC Care and Conditions policy to ensure that dogs have access to adequate food, water and shelter and that kennel space provided them is appropriately constructed and not overcrowded. If a dog appears to have a health issue, inspectors make sure it is being addressed."

"We are thrilled with the results of this inspection," said Tim Hoke, co-owner of Golden Meadows. "The inspector told me she loves coming here and seeing dogs that are healthy, happy and well taken care of."

Golden Meadows Retrievers is the happy home to dozens of Golden Retrievers and Vizslas. The kennel, located north of Moorpark, has been breeding op quality Golden Retriever puppies for more than 18 years. All of our Golden Meadows Retrievers come from excellent pedigrees with champion lines, sweet temperaments and great looks.

Golden Meadows puppies are trained and come with a two-year health guarantee against genetic hip, heart and eye defects. The puppies are loved from day one and given the greatest care and respect.

Golden Meadows also has a few 12-week-old Vizslas puppies in training. These beautiful and statuesque dogs are being named after the Los Angeles Dodgers. Come and see ManRam and his teammates.

Ventura County Star Story:Golden Meadows Training Helps Autistic Boy

AUTHOR: golfbuddy - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, October 24, 2009

Tim and Barbie Hoke of Golden Meadows Kennel, located in Moorpark, pride themselves on their White Golden and Light Golden Retrievers and Vizslas. They train the dogs themselves (along with the help of a few on-site trainers) starting at three days old. Also, as stated on their website, "We specialize in choosing & matching the right puppy for your family." This is how Brad Johnston, a 10-year-old autistic child, ended up with his dog, Costner. Golden Meadows Kennel's amazing training helped Brad and his family be able to have a dog.

Brad was a quiet kid who had trouble interacting with others. "He did not engage in give and take communication or idle chit chat. He did not know how to play with peers or even involve himself with them," said Brad's mother, Rebecca. But thanks to Golden Meadows Kennel, Brad is a changed boy. He now loves to go out places with Costner. Costner brings Brad a sense of relaxation and confidence. Costner also brings Brad closer to other children. When the two go out together kids will ask Brad if they can play with him or what his dog's name is. Brad now feels invited into the groups he once felt excluded from.

The reason the dogs at Golden Meadows Kennel were a good match for Brad and his family is simple: the training. The trainers at Golden Meadows Kennel start with early neurological stimulation at three days old. This trains the puppies to deal with stress, and strengthen their immune systems. At six weeks they move onto crate training and potty training. Three to four weeks after that the puppies begin sleeping in crates, which give them a sense of protection. At eight weeks the puppies begin basic obedience training and by four to six months, they are fully trained. However, with a dog from Golden Meadows Kennel, the training does not end there. In fact, with a Golden Meadows dog, the training is never finished, as Rebecca Johnston learned while purchasing Costner. Rebecca was taught how to train Costner herself, first in a DVD sent to her by Tim and Barbie prior to picking the dog up, then again when she arrived at Golden Meadows Kennel.

The amount that Golden Meadows Kennel trains their dogs was a major factor in the Johnstons' choice of Costner. With Brad's challenges, they did not have time to train a dog. Brad, like many children with autism, has a problem dealing with sensory overload. The stability Costner received from his training has given Brad a sense of stability as well.

Breeder In The Dog House

Accused Of Grand Theft, Animal Cruelty, Filing False Report
By: KVTA News
2009-07-24

The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is accusing a Moorpark area dog breeder of grand theft, animal cruelty, and filing a false report of a crime.

They say it all started with some employees at the Golden Meadows Kennels complaining to the authorities about the treatment of dogs at the facility. That prompted the Sheriff's Department, Humane Society, and County Code Enforcement to visit the facility in the 12000 block of Clinton Street in the unincorporated area near Moorpark.

Deputies say they found puppies being housed in crates so small they could not stand or turn around and did not have access to water. They found grown dogs with open sores but were being cared for by employees.

Ultimately, the owners, Tim and Barbara Hoke of Moorpark were issued a citation by Code Enforcement because they did not have a conditional use permit for the facility. All that happened on July 2nd.

Deputies say that on July 7th Barbara Hoke filed a grand theft report claiming that several employees had stolen dogs from the kennel when they resigned after the July 2nd incident.

Deputies say an investigation determined the allegations were false and that Hoke had actually allowed the employees to take the dogs, in one case giving a puppy to an employee as a gift.

Deputies say on July 11th, Hoke went to Simi Valley to take that puppy back by force. Simi Valley Police responded and she showed them breeding paperwork and other information that convinced the officers to seize the puppy and give it to Hoke.

Later, Simi Valley Police say they determined the paperwork was false and that Hoke should not have been allowed to take the puppy, which is now missing.

The former kennel employee had also accused Hoke of using an electronic "cattle prod" and remote control "shock collar" as a training aid. Deputies say that while the shock collar can be used legitimately, an investigator felt it was being used to such an extent as to fall within the definition of cruelty to animals.

Deputies also say that the employees who reported the conditions at the kennel have been subject to accusatory emails from Hoke who say they say has made it difficult for them to find work in the animal training field. Deputies commended the employees for coming forward with their allegations.

Kennel care at center of dog fight

By Zeke Barlow (Contact)
Saturday, July 25, 2009

The co-owner of a high-end Moorpark dog kennel and breeding facility was arrested Friday on suspicion of stealing a dog, cruelty to animals and filing a false police report.

The incident involving Golden Meadows Kennels co-owner Barbara Hoke comes after a month of back-and-forth accusations by the people involved, confusing tales of who owned the dog, and conflicting stories of how the dogs at the facility are treated.

Hoke, 51, said she has been wrongly accused and is a target of a disgruntled employee. But law enforcement officials say they believe she was abusing her golden retrievers and vizslas dogs some of which cost $7,000 with an electric cattle prod and shock collars.

All this comes after a Ventura County agency issued a citation earlier this month to the Hokes for not having the needed permit to run a kennel.

They are operating illegally, said Gloria Goldman, senior code compliance officer with the Ventura County Code Compliance Division. She said the owners have a notice of violation to fix the problem, which would require them to remove the dogs from the property and then get the needed permit. Hoke declined to comment about the permit.

The case began earlier this month when employees at the kennel on Clinton Street called the Humane Society and other agencies complaining about how dogs were being treated at the facility.

Though officials did see some dogs in kennels that were too small and exposed to too much sun, none of the more than 100 animals' lives were in immediate danger and the problems were correctable, Ventura County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Will Hammer said at the time. It was after that Goldman issued the citation.

About a week later, Hoke called police and said five dogs had been stolen by some of the now former employees who had complained to authorities. Hammer said that a few days after that, Hoke went to the house of former employee Cathy Goldberg. When Hoke tried to take the dog by force, the police were called. Hoke showed papers that she said proved the dog was hers, so police gave Hoke the dog, Hammer said.

But a subsequent investigation found that the dog did not belong to Hoke, Hammer said. That also led to several former employees telling Hammer that an electronic cattle prod and shock collar were used on the dogs, he said.

While they can be used for legitimate reasons, Hammer said he saw pictures of burn marks on dogs, showing they were used in what he suspects was a cruel manner. The items were found at the kennel when officials recently executed a search warrant.

Hoke was arrested Friday and posted $10,000 bail.

She said when all the facts come out, she and her husband, Tim, who co-owns the facility, will be vindicated.

We take extremely good care of our dogs and puppies, and they are in top-notch condition and we feed them top-notch food and groom them every two weeks, she said. Hoke claims that a disgruntled employee is to blame for the accusations.

These allegations are completely false, Tim Hoke said.

Golden Meadows Retrievers has been Wonderful to us!

AUTHOR: Rebecca - (United States Minor Outlying Islands)

POSTED: Saturday, April 04, 2009

Golden Meadows Retrievers have been wonderful to us. I have recommended them over and over and will continue to. We purchased a young adult trained dog about 1 year ago. He is amazing! He was exactly what was described to us as we live out of state and were unable to see him. Golden Meadows gave us training materials so that we would know all the commands that our dog had been taught. They have followed our progress and continue to help us with our questions along the way. We have taught our dog more commands and tricks because he is so smart! I love his temperment, so calm in nature and easy going.

We took our dog to have a CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test 2 weeks after we got him. He passed with flying colors. In fact, all the other dogs there to be tested had just completed an obediance class. Many of those dogs did not pass the CGC even though they had taken a class. I received many compliments on the behavior, temperment, and good looks of my dog. I was thrilled to realize how much training our dog had and how good he was.

We love our dog, he has become a part of the family and goes everywhere with us. He loves to go watch the kids baseball and football games. It still makes me smile when strangers tell me how good my dog is just sitting and watching. They are so impressed.
You won't go wrong with purchasing a dog from Golden Meadows Retrievers. These dogs are amazing!
