I have never dealt with a company so corrupt and crooked. I have been a Time Warner customer for over 10 years and have only had to contact customer service probably three times in all those years. However, those calls to customer service have all been in the last year or so.

The first time was when I received an offer in the mail (which is almost daily) from Time Warner promoting a deal for a better package at a lower cost than I currently had. However, when I contacted them, for some reason that made absolutely no sense, this deal didn't apply to me. If I wanted the same deal, I would have to pay $70 more than I was currently paying.

And then today, I contacted them about the cost difference if I cancelled my cable and DVR, but kept my wireless internet and upgraded it to Turbo internet. They informed me I was in a contract until 5/2014 and I would have to pay an early cancellation fee of $150 which I was willing to do if the reduced cost of just the internet would offset that cancellation fee.

The representative told me the Turbo internet upgrade would cost $20. I then asked how much my total cost for wireless internet service would be and he informed me it would be more than I am currently paying for cable, internet, and DVR. Even if I didn't upgrade to Turbo internet, the cost savings of cancelling my cable and DVR would be less than $20/month.

After this experience, I had planned to cancel everything and find another internet service provider, but unfortunately Time Warner appears to be the only option in my area at this time. Regardless, even if Cincinnati Bell's fioptics hasn't expanded to my area by 5/2014, I will be cancelling everything and I guess spending a lot more time in coffee shops.

It is completely mindboggling to me that this company has been allowed to create a virtual monopoly without any type of intervention from the government or lawsuit. And now, with the Comcast merger, there will be an ever larger monopoly.

Where is the Ripoff???

AUTHOR: TeeJay - ()

POSTED: Friday, February 14, 2014

I don't see any ripoff here.  First, I will give my disclaimer that I do NOT work for Time Warner, never have, never will.

What you fail to understand is what EVERY service provider does.  You are currently in a "triple play" package where they bundle tv, phone and internet into one package at a discounted price.  The first year is $xx per month, the second year it increases, usually by about $20 per month, and the 3rd year you get what is called "every day pricing" or retail pricing.

When you want to break your promo, you will get the services you want at regular retail or every day prices, which is why it costs more than all 3 together.  TWC does this, so does Comcast, DirecTV, Verizon FIOS, Dish, etc etc.

As far as your first issue with getting offers in the mail, they send these offeres to EVERYONE regardless if you have their services or not.  Most likely, if you were not currently in a promo, they would give you the promo price.  Since you already have a promo, your out of luck.  This is just how these companys work.  All of them do it.
