My mother passed the day before mother's day 2009. She left me her car which I was going to give to my son. Having done business in the past with Tire Works I trusted them enough to go back and let them service this car. I went in September 2010 to their competitor because I had purchased a fundraiser discount card full of great discounts and free services. They gave me their full report and diagnosis.
So, I called Dalin, the store manager, and advised him on the charges for the repairs the competitor said I needed. He immediately told me to come into his store and he "would take care of me". So, I did and he beat the prices by a few hundred dollars. I also informed him that the car shook when driving at exactly 65mph.
Tire Works completed almost every repair they said was needed except for a few minor things. Over $1500 worth of work done (not done). I immediately called to inform that the car was driving exactly the same. They told me it was the ball bearings. One would think they would have found that out the first time. Reluctantly, I had the work done. Another couple of hundred dollars.
So, after work one late afternoon I called up there and spoke to an assistant manager (his name escapes me but it's a high turnover there anyway) who told me to come in to have a mechanic look at it. This time I asked to accompany the mechanic on his test drive to make sure he knew what I was talking about. He even let me drive. I took the car on the highway and the car started shaking even worse. The mechanic said he could definitely feel the vibration and knew exactly what was wrong. He even said it should have been fixed the first time because he was there the day my car was worked on. He said "we give our findings/results/diagnosis to the managers and then they write the estimate and we only do what we're told". WHAT? As a opposed to just fixing what is wrong?
The manager called me up to the counter to only now inform me that "the only thing we could find wrong was the struts were bad and that it needed an alignment". Mind you, I had already had the car looked at elsewhere and the struts were fine. He even asked when was the last time the tires were replaced. Pissed off by this time I advised that I purchased not 1, 2 or 3 tires but 4 from their store and that the alignment was included. He looked up the information to confirm what I was saying and then said he would have them check the alignment again.
In the meantime, I asked how much THIS so called "bad strut" job would cost me and he said around $400. I flipped slightly. I advised that whatever was wrong should have been uncovered when it was test driven the first few times. I advised that I would call Dalin because I felt that I was being screwed and I didn't like it. He was ok with that and told me the next day Dalin would be in so I could discuss my concerns with him. He didn't even give me an estimate. I took my car and left. The car still shook. Hmm.
I called the following day and spoke to Dalin who told me to bring the car in, which I did. I had to work so I dropped the car off but not before telling Dalin how I felt I was getting taken for a ride. He really didn't care but gave me that phony customer service script about how HE would check the car along with the mechanic. Now this struck me as weird because Dalin is NOT a mechanic. He is an ex-Marine and ex-LA police officer. SO, best case scenario he likes to tinker with autos. I even called him on it and he said he's been training. I told him I want what I paid for, no more no less. Upset but running late for work I asked that he called me with their findings. He agreed but never called.
I called and Dalin told me NOTHING was wrong with my struts and he doesn't know why I was told that. But, he did proceed to tell me that one of my rims was bent and that's what was causing my car to shake. I asked why wasn't it uncovered before during the test drive and he said he didn't know. I told him I would just come pick up my car when I got off and before they closed.
I picked up my car and was clearly upset. My best friend tried to intervene because I was very hostile by this point. Dalin then told her "if she's going to act like this I won't do anything for her". I was appalled to say the least. I even cooked for these jerks in hopes that they would do right by me. NOT. I asked what were my options and he said he could either order me a new rim for $200 or place the bad one on a back tire and I would hardly notice it. So, I said just put it on the back tire.
Needless to say, 11 months later the car still shakes at 65mph. I've finally got the funds to get the car looked at properly but I wouldn't send my enemy into that place. Even at the auto parts store, that shares the same parking lot, an employee told me "we NEVER refer anyone to them". "I needed my car looked at and Tire Works told me it wold be "over $400". I took it to a mobile mechanic and was told I only needed a $40 part and my car has been rolling fine ever since".
Wow, I wish I would have gone in there before my nightmare began with Tire Works. Even one of the Tire Works mechanics told me to look the store up online because they have had so many complaints regarding their shoddy work. He even told us about one in particular where Dalin referred to a customer as "b***h'. in an email. I looked up their BBB rating and to my dismay found and F rating. I'm not surprised.
