Spent an afternoon looking at new Camaro's and after finding what I wanted with the help of an excellent salesman. We started the proposal on the new car purchase. I was buying a 2011 SS with 6500 miles on it for 34,500. I had planned on trading in my clean 02 Escalade with 148,000 miles on it which is valued between 5500-9000 by NADA ranging from rough to clean condition. Tom Gill offered me $3000 for it and the finance manager copped an attitude with me when I balked at his offer. He then expected me to go on with the deal just minus my trade. No way! The offer was insulting and then to get rude after being called out on it is a definite deal breaker.

I have to wonder how many uninformed customers have just given away the equity in a trade with Tom Gill? Deginitely not a business of character as the slogan suggests. As I have taken my business elsewhere.

6300 would have kept me at the negotiating table.

I realize the truck is 10 years old obviously. That also doesn't meant I'm going to accept well below either book on it. I have bought quite a few cars over the years and traded in many vehicles and realize that taking a loss from private party value is part of the process. I also realize my trade has resale value just as the used camaro does. It's the one sided low ball tactics coupled with a bad attitude by a sales manager that robbed me of an afternoon and a hard working salesman of a sale and prompted this report.

Not all dealerships operate in this fashion, I bought my wife a new Altima 2 weeks ago from Kerry Nissan and they paid exactly what we asked for the trade and accepted our offer on the Altima. All together a pleasurable experience. Guess where I'm taking my business today?

Sell the Escalade yourself and then get your Camaro. You do realize your Escalade is now 10 years old.
