5 Years ago I inherited a storage unit from my father, the place is quite a distance from my home.  My father didn't leave very much behind in terms of funds/inheritance.  I have been trying very hard to pay off the remainder of his bills, with very little help from the business's involved.

This place said they would work with me, understood my financial situation but refused over and over to either reduce their rate or cancel some of their fees.  In all honesty I did get behind in the rent, however by the time I was finally able to get them paid off and the items removed they would not budge on removing their late fees - and we aren't talking small change we are talking about $800 in fees.  The owner (who I never met in person nor wish to do so) was always arrogant and and extreme "jerk".  Even when I paid them off and the money cleared my bank and I traveled to assess the storage unit they almost refused to not let me in.  I had to go online and prove to them through my bank that I had indeed paid them -then they had to get their accountant involved and the Girl they have running the place was completely clueless as to how to verify money in a bank or anything.  Obviously they gave this manager no power at all because she had to call for every detail.

I am pretty sure this company knew what items were in my unit otherwise they wouldn't have tried to take the contents from me twice.  When I finally got my stuff out I found that the roof leaked and sprayed rust onto lots of stuff - but that aside I just wanted to get out and have nothing more to do with this place!

If you want a decent christian place to store your stuff at? go elsewhere

Really you want to go on and complain that they would not give you free rent or waive the late fees you yourself admit to incurring. You really need to reexamine what the term "rip off" means. I'm sure it must have been difficult for your to deal with this "arrogant jerk". How dare he demand you PAY him for his services. Please note the sarcasm. It sounds like he went out of his way to help you if you incurred $800 in fees. At Public Storage if you do not pay your rent in December you can bet your stuff will be sold before January ends. Even if you pay December's rent on January 1st they will STILL sell your goods for the remaining balance. Once your payment goes 30 days late they can put a lien on your goods and sell them at auction and a partial payment does NOT stop the sale. They do not allow tenants to incur this kind of outstanding debt it is bad business. They really should have sold your stuff, as they were legally allowed, at least then you wouldn't be complaining about the leak.
