I attended UPW in San Jose, CA July 2014. I signed up for Mastery University and put the entire amount as a deposit. They will receive my cancellation notice tomorrow. The most important thing is that Robbins Research does NOT follow state law. California requires a notice next to your signature of the three-day right of cancellation and refund of all monies. California law also requires that the buyer be told verbally at the time of this right, and that a separate notice of cancellation form be included with the receipt. Robbins did none of this. Under California law, the three day cancellation period DOES NOT START until these things are done. There was in tiny print on the front that the deposit is no refundable, and a tiny notice that the buyer is agreeing to additional terms on the back. The firm was handed to me on a clipboard, which meant only the front of the form was visible. There were two "payment over time" options. It was not disclosed that 22% interest will be charged on the unpaid balance **before attending the additional seminars**. So -- **Check your state laws regarding cancellation rights after a seminar sale of goods or future services. **Also check your state laws regarding the conditions where liquidated damages are allowed -- such as the "non refundable" deposit and the $995 cancellation fee in tiny print on the back. **Possibly your state or local attorney general or government consumer protection agency may help.** I used a debit card for payment. You also have rights if you used a credit card, and perhaps a debit card. It is sad that a company with a truly good message would resort to such sales tactics.
