My phone number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry. Nevertheless, I received a call and the following voicemail message from a blocked ID: "(My first name), This is Tracy Clarks calling you from the firm of Roth, Rubin and Rosenthal. When you receive this message I really need you to give me a call back please. My number is 888-245-1049." Notice how the message does not say what the call is regarding.

The name of the person making the call, and the name of the firm are obviously fictitious. There was no information about these names, or the phone number, when I did an Internet search. The call is intended to make you believe that you are being contacted by an attorney's office, and therefore scare you into returning the call. The wording used in the message is "firm" rather than "law firm."

The background noise of the voicemail sounds like a telemarketing boiler room, with people talking in the background. This is obviously a solicitation.

I hate to tell you this, unless you already know it, but being on the national do not call list won't stop collectors from calling. I'ts only to, supposedly, stop these scam auto repair insurance scammers and others of their ilk from phishing. As Tracey said, record them if you can or simply don't answer.

Not the First Time I've Encountered This Scheme

This is the second one of these blocked ID scams I've encountered:

Notice the peculiar similarity between the company names of both reports.

Follow your instinct and don't answer the phone, records all messages left.  I tried to look them up but with no luck.
