Let's start with the Transunion credit score report that is offered free with my credit card.  I am supposed to get free monitoring and I've actually been believing the information that I get when I login to my credit card account.  Then someone suggested I use credit karma to check my credit scores, because it's free.  I did sign up for credit karma, but it showed my credit score almost 100 points lower than what was reported through my "free" credit score monitoring with my credit card company.  I thought that it couldn't be right, even though all the information was supposedly coming from Transunion as well.  How could two companies(my credit card company and credit karma) both using the same TransUnion information give two different scores?

So I went directly to Transunion to get my score, thinking that if I get it directly from them, it has to be the correct information.  I go to the transunion website and they are offering to view your credit score for $1.00.  I pay the dollar, but it's only the transunion score.  So I pay another $29.99 to get all 3 credit bureau scores and my credit report.  The information on transunion confirmed what I found out for free on credit karma.  (kudos to credit karma).  Yes, I blew $30 bucks, but I wanted to know the truth.  So I complained to my credit card company about my score being wrong.

A week later, I get a another charge to my credit card for $18 for upgrading my "membership" to Transunion.  I saw no where about the $1 being a membership or that the $1 was part of some free trial.  I did have a one track mind when I paid the $1, but it seems that those details should have been a bit more obvious or I wouldn't have signed up for it.

I only wanted my credit score.  Why would I pay the extra $29.99 if I could get the exact same information by paying the $18?  Something is really wrong it is not clear that paying $30 bucks is a waste of time.

I call Transunion to tell them that I didn't authorize that $18 charge for the membership, after A LOT of arguing with the representative, he cancels the account and hopefully is issuing the refund.  Well, The $30 credit scores/report is supposed to be available for 30 days, but now I can't access that either.  I call Transunion back and they say, oh because you cancelled the "membership" you can't access the score/report you paid $30 for.  WHAT???

How are these 2 things linked and how come I didn't know that when I signed up?  Where does it say if you cancel one, that you can't get the other?  Mind you, I had no idea I was signing up for any membership in the first place.  Won't refund me the $30 because I was able to see my 3 scores, but I also thought I had 30 days to view my scores and report.

So if you cancel a 7-day free trial AND you paid for a 30 day view of a score/report, one cancels the other???!!!???

This information is NO WHERE to be found on their website.  They are full of crap and I am also reporting this to www.consumerfinance.gov

I should not lose my money or my service due to another un-related service.  It should be clear that those two things are linked and also - why didn't the representative tell me that I would lose access to my score/report?  A bunch of liars.  Don't trust them with your money.

Go to (((REDACTED))) for free scores and (((REDACTE)))for your free credit reports.

$49 loss and education on never trusting or using any services provided by TransUnion  Tricksters...

Buyer beware!  Transunion Trickers will automatically sign you up for a membership and keep charging your card.  READ the other complaints.  Robert seems to only want to target my posts for some reason?  Is he a Transunion Trickster?

Transunion tricksters did not have membership info when I purchased.  Buyer beware!!!  Don't get tricked and don't believe Robert who obviously works for them and is not a consumer.

So it doesn't exist?  Well all I did was go to the main Transunion site and amazingly it is right there..

http://www.transunion.com/

Of course if you still say it doesn't exist, why not post the link you went to that doesn't say you will be charged $18/month.

$1 credit score is a rip-off

No Thank you for putting this fake information on my complaint as NONE of this was on the page where I purchased my non-free trial non-membership $1 credit score.  It was not indicated on the cart, or payment page either.  You post some market level bull on here if you want but from reading the other complaints, I am obviously not the only person who was RIPPED-OFF by Transunion the exact same way.  No none of your crap looks familiar because it was not there.  I have made a complaint via FTC as well.

Transunion tricksters did not have membership info when I purchased.  Buyer beware!!!  Don't get tricked and don't believe Robert who obviously works for them and is not a consumer.

You were not Ripped Off...

First and foremost you need to realize there are no less than a few dozen different credit scoring models.  What does this mean?  Well it means that even with the same credit report you could get a few dozen different scores.  Even the FICO score(which is the most widely used) has over 50 different models, all of which can give you a different score as they all look at different aspects of your credit report.

So even though your credit score from your Credit Card Company was 100 points higher than the one from CK, it was just as valid.  It is just looking at different aspects.   For the consumer a credit score is generally a good guide as to where you stand.  But you can't bounce back and forth between multiple scores hoping for a certain score, because two different scores could be saying EXACTLY the same thing.   This is even more important because unless the one from your credit report was a FICO variation it is unlikely that any of the credit scores you got(from your credit card, TU, or CK) would be used by any major lender such as if you were to go apply for a Mortgage or Home Loan.  The key for a good score with what ever model you look at is to maintain good credit habbits and make sure the information on your credit report is correct.

Now, as for the monitoring.

Directly from the The Home Page.

Offer Details: Your FREE TransUnion Credit Score & $1 Credit Report are available as part of a 7-day trial of our subscription-based credit monitoring service. You may cancel at any time during the trial period. At the end of your 7-day trial, you will be billed at the low cost of only $17.95 per month (plus tax for NY residents).

Now, even if your one track mind missed it there you are given an additional disclaimer on the very next page you use to sign up..

"Cancel anytime during the trial period at no additional cost, or do nothing and have your membership continue without interuption.  Please note lenders use many different credit scoring models. The score you get from us may not be the one your lender uses.

Notice the part that I underlined above...Sound familiar?
