My husband got a call from this"Your Travel Headquarters", said he won a cruise from the Mall where he submitted his entry at.  He remembered doing that.  He also asked a lot of questions referring to this entry.  They said they worked with Carnival Cruises and they have their own website also.

They sent us their information with letters, website, emails, etc. and also a letter from Carnival Cruise.  They also answered any e-mails we sent regarding this trip.  So, they came off as being a legit company.  All they needed from us was a $176 booking fee for the cruise & they will send our itinerary to us.  After getting all this info, we thought it was official.  We then gave them our $176.

We waited a couple weeks for our itinerary.  We then called them.  They finally sent the info.  They told us to list the three dates we wanted for our 4-day Cruise  which ran Thurs. Depart day arrive following Monday.  We set up our 3 dates.  Never heard back.

Called again as our dates were getting closer to the 1st date we picked for our cruise.  They said they would call back a month in advance before they book the 1st date we picked.  They never called back.  Now we are very concerned, this must be a scam!

We called Carnival Cruise lines said there are cabins available for the dates we picked.  So now we called the agent from YTH back.  He said all the dates we picked were booked (very popular cruise).  We wanted to know how can that be when we had did everything according to their instructions & had our dates picked 6 mos. in advance.

He told us we can have this dates if we want to upgrade for $200 each person.  We told them to refund our booking fee for $176 back to us, we don't want your supposedly called "Free Cruise".  He told us it is non-refundable because it's a government tax fee!

Obviously, this company is nothing but a scam!  We reported them to the BBB of Chicago IL.  We hope this does not happen to other people!  Look out for this Company if they call you, never believe anyone you won a free trip!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Free?

AUTHOR: Sharon - (United States of America)

Although something may state that it is "Free" there are always terms and conditions that have to be followed to a T. Let's face it, NOTHING is free in life. I feel bad that you feel that you got ripped off, which in a sense, you did. I used to work for a sister company of this "Your Travel Headquarters". These "Free" trips are not worth it and not free. If anyone would read the fine print on the back, you would see that it says "based upon availability", "non-refundable fee" and many more restrictions when using these. You have to understand how these work (speaking of this company as well as any company that offers these promotions) Travel companies get a group block of space to use these "free" trips, once their booked, their gone. So you may have called the cruise line and they said there was availabilty but what you wont hear is that they only offered5 rooms perdeparture date to this travel company and gain, once their booked, their gone. I am in no way defending this company -Most of their practives are unethical. Idont understand why people still A.go to travel agencies, B. Think anything is free, C. Buy into something without completly looking into it. My advice, want to go on a trip? go to expedia.com - want something free? steal it cause thats the way anything will be free.
