The Truth About TravelWorkPlay.com aka Face To Face

AUTHOR: A Friend - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Hello All.
I am ex-employee of travelworkplay.com And I can tell you from my experience working with them that none of the other employees are aware of how much a scam this really is. I was first introduced to it when a young woman knocked at my friend's door. She tried to sell me the mags, but I told her that I wasn't the permanent resident there and that I was unemployed, and having a hard time finding a job. She immediately jumped to asking me if I would like to work for her company the very same night, which struck me as odd, but considering the hard situation I was in and the place I was staying; I had agreed to work for her company. But under the condition that the company would also be paying minimum wage, which I had asked her about and she said "Yes, they pay minimum wage, along with the commission that you receive when you sell magazines". So hearing that, I thought it was a legit job. She proceeded to try to sell the mags to my friends, but both couldn't buy any since they were pretty broke themselves.

For a whole week, I went door-to-door with my trainers. First, with the one that had hired me and would get a bonus in her next pay once I had made my first $1,000 sale. Than, with others to show me how they work their "SPILLS". During the time I had spent with this crew, I'd sensed a genuine vibe from this crew and found myself enjoying their company. A lot of the crew are awesome, down-to-earth young adults. That work their butts off trying to make their quota. For each sale they make, and when they were training me, they would give me one sale. One sale equals to $20.00. The first two weeks of your training you are guaranteed a sale, $20.00 a day. Your hotel room is paid for and your travels. Unfortunately, your food isn't covered and you have to rely on the $20.00 you have made to cover your food expenses, etc.  Because there is no minimum wage. Which I did go back to the one that hired me and asked about the minimum wage again and she said, "Oh no. It's commission only" which I wasn't told by her upon being hired.

As my experience went on with this crew, I saw a great bond between everyone, and one that was also growing with me. Some, which I regret not being able to contact in any way, were people I would of liked to stayed in contact with since a lot of them were like me in some way. You see, before they left for another city and before my two weeks was through, I came to realized that even when these young adults from the ages of 18 to 30, were told that this was a scam, that they did not believe it. They were told by the bosses that there were some "bad" sales people on the teams and were kicked off after so many complaints were made. Complaints that consist of some of the kids pocketing the money from sale, for themselves and telling their drivers that they "WADDED". Meaning, they didn't make one sale on their "JOUST". (The neighborhood they were dropped off in to sell their magazines to "THE JONES" ie: Residence with lots of money and would buy mags.) This seemed to be true, but to me.. knowing that some actually did do this, it only seemed to be half truths.

The point I am making to you is that I believe a lot of the kids/young adults have been brainwashed by the company and their leaders. I believe a lot of the people that work for them as sale representatives get caught into this because they were in a bad situation, and suddenly there is a possibility of good opportunity for change. Such as I was in. I am late 20's with a face of a 19yr. old when hired by them, (they hire people of any age as long as they appear to be young) and knowing myself... I know for a fact that I am not a con-artist myself, and I have never been arrested. Which is also what frightened me. They would go into "No Soliciting" neighborhoods and trying to sell these mags to the residents, door-to-door. And knowing that two people from my crew were arrested on their JOUST made me nervous, and had me to decide to cut out of the position of selling mags. How I did it, I will not say. My leave is distinct. Because as much as I would love to see how the crew is doing, I am afraid that things have changed and something bad will happen to me in some way, knowing they have my S.S. number on file.

As for what happens when you order magazines from my ex-employer, you are given a choice to either buy them for yourself, donate them to charity, or buy them for a friend or family member. The money is supposedly suppose to go to the Face To Face's warehouse, where they send out the mags. However, I think that's a bunch of B.S. The rate that you will get your mags in the mail is slim to none. However, you would be helping the sales rep obtain their pay for the night, since a large portion of the money goes to the boss that is the head of that crew. The boss doesn't keep the money for him or herself either, but makes the orders for the mags and sends them out. For the most part, I believe everyone is under the impression that they are doing their jobs correctly and legitimating . But... I also do believe that there is something about their jobs, with high-ups, that they don't know about and are being kept unaware of.

As for anything else I would like to tell you about the sales reps, if they ever come across you, please be nice to them. They are all good people and are just doing what they really think is a legit job. If you don't buy from them, at least let them use your bathroom if needed, or a phone. My trainer and I went to seven houses, and I had to go to the bath badly. I have only one kidney, so we had asked everyone politely we came across if we could use their bathroom, and they all said "No". Seven houses down I couldn't hold anymore and we had an hour before the driver would pick us up at our drop point. And after the last house we had asked, let's just say we ended up in the back of a police's car. Because where I am from, when you have to go... you have to go. - and no one looks at you twice. So, all I am saying is please don't stick your nose up in the air as if you are too good when it comes to them. In fact, try to enlighten a lot of them with these reports.

Another reason why I left is because my friends looked up this company online and told me about it, which this being after I had already got myself involved. With what I had seen and what they had discovered, is what made me come to the final decision on leaving the crew. If you have a way to show them online what they are in, maybe also be able to help them out of it, than please do. Like I have said, a lot of them come from a broken background, but are really good people. Anyways, I believe I have said enough. If you wish to hear more, please feel free to contact me. I will be happy to answer any questions that I can.
