I recently received a letter in the mail from Tribute Financial Inc. claiming that I had been awarded a grant for $25,000 for home improvement needs.  I don't even have to own a home to claim it.  That's good since I rent an apartment.  This letter also included a check for $3,475 and a phone number that I was to call.  In Ontario, Canada.  I called the number and was told that I was to cash the check and call him back.  It was to cover fees and taxes for the award before I could claim it.  So I stupidly did so.  I then came home and called the number several times and left messages.  It wasn't till the evening when the bank was closed that I got a hold of Mr. Frank Williams again.  He gave me instructions to withdraw $2,800 cash and keep the remainder.

Go to a Western Union and send it to a Ms. Ruth Joaber in another city.  Chicago, ILL.  Then they would send remainder of $25,000.  Well, I waited till next day and went into the bank to withdraw it and send it Western Union from there. I wasn't supposed to take my letter with me but I did.  I was told to keep it in a safe place at home so no one could claim it from me.  I live alone with my dog.  What's he going to do.  Call.  I don't think so.  Anyway, I was very, suspicious by now and sure enough.  The bank teller asked to see the letter and took it to the manager and stopped me.  Praise the Lord.  It's a very, clever scam where they have you send money to bogus names and then take back the check leaving you high and dry.  I am so glad for 5/3 bank for watching out for me.  I hope others read this and don't fall for it either.
