I obtained a TRIBUTE card for myself to help rebuild my credit. It went downhill when I had cancer and no insurance. In addition, I was a single mom. So it wasn't like I purposefully did not pay my bills.

I received the card the beginning of May. I checked online at www.mytributecard.com, and it said that my first payment of $20.00 was due on June 7, 2007. On May 24th, I made a $40.00 payment from my bank acct. (By the way- all of this can be proven with bank statements and emails to and from the company.) I assumed that the payment that I made on 05-24-07 covered my June payment. Around June 16th, I received a call from TRIBUTE. My acct was past due and I now had an overlimit and late fee. I told the gentleman that I spoke with that I had made a payment on 5-24-07.

He informed me that the payment was made prior to the end of the billing cycle and counted back towards my card balance and not an actual payment. He told me that there was a payment due now and if I paid that day, they would waive the overlimit and late fees due to the misunderstanding.

I asked if I paid $100.00 that day when would my next payment be due. He said Spetember 7, 2007. So I proceeded to make a $100.00 payment. I got a call in August stating that my acct payment was again late and I would have fees assessed. I explained to the lady what the gentleman who contacted me in June said. She then put me on hold. Came back to the line after about five minutes and said she would waive the overlimit and late fees if I commited to making a payment that day. I asked her if I paid $40.00, when would my next payment be due. She stated on 10-07-2007.

On 10-04-2007, I checked the balance online to see if the August overlimit and late fees had been removed. They had not. I sent the company an email stating that I had a payment due and wanted to make it, but I would not until they resolved my billing issues and had the late and overlimit fees from August removed as they promised. I received an email from the company stating, "This department cannot handle your email, so we have passed it on to customer carre."

I received no contact from customer care. I emailed them two more times. Finally someone responded (after my payment due date) and said that they had removed the August fees, but now I had generated October fees. Now, I am spitting mad. I called the company and went through three people before someone in collections finally said that they would remove only $35.00 of fees. I was frankly tired of fighting (yes, they wore me down a bit), and made another payment of $100.00. Then, in November, I made a payment of $30.00.

I called the company to see what my available balance was because it would not show me online and was informed that my account had been closed due to non-payment. (Let me remind you again, that I have bank statements I am happy to share to prove otherwise.)

I sent a detailed letter to the company outlining my issues and received a letter back saying that they were sorry for my financial hardships, but were unable to do anything for me. I think they had me confused with someone else. Everyone who has had a bad or the same experience should file a report/make a complaint. What they are doing to people is wrong.
