So I went to Ashley Furniture and I wanted to purchase a sectional that I had been eyeing for a while. I spoke to the Ashley Salesperson and she gave us a quote and submitted my financing application. It didnt go through so she referred me to TRS which was located inside the store. She claimed she got her furniture through them because she also had a few bumps and bruises on her credit and that they were "great". Little did I know that she still makes her commission if I go through TRS. After sitting down with TRS and going over the process, it seemed pretty legit. I was quoted a total price of about $1,500. They said I had to pay $394 upfront for the "processing fees", "taxes", "FIRST MONTH PAYMT" and "delivery fees". So I went ahead and made a check out for them. I told him they could deposit the check the following day since I did not have the funds available that at that moment in time. We agreed that I would return after the check was submitted and do all the contract paperwork. When I came in to sign my contract, the employee did not have it printed up and said he could do it in 20 min. I had things to do so I told him I'd return in 2 hours when I'd be on my way to work. Two hours later.....he still had not printed up the contract. So I had to wait...and wait...and wait. In all I waited about half an hour and I was now running REAL late to work. (I think they wanted to rush me thru the contract so thats why they took so long). After bringing out the contract I first noticed the quoted price was waaaay lower than the one before. It said $1,050. The payment was scheduled for every 2nd of the month. My payment had been agreed at $223. However, in the payment schedule...only about $40 of that reflected on my total furniture cost. HORRIBLE! Now this is where it got more shady. Again, I was told my payment was gonna be $223, but the contract said $171. ??????? The manager first said the $171 was in regards to a repo minimum payment or something like that. Neither him or the employee who helped me could answer any of my questions. I was confused so I kept reading on even though I was running SUPER late to work. Ofcourse the contract later specifically stated "A minimum payment of $171 for the first 5 mo....." After that I would have the option to purchase in full, continue lease or terminate the contract. (DO THEY EVEN READ THEIR OWN CONTRACTS???) I pointed that out to the manager it was then that he agreed that the amount was my payment but as for the $223 he previously told me, the difference was going to pay taxes and "processing fees". Hmmm...did "processing fees" really mean MANAGER'S POCKETS???? Now remember how I wrote a check for $394??? The contract asked for an initial payment of $351. I asked the manager why it asked for a lesser amount then what I gave them and he said that the extra $43 would go into a "deposit account" that they were gonna save up for me whenever I made a larger payment. With those funds I would be able to use as a full purchase payment. Ofcourse, by then my purchase price would be sky high. Anything to keep you from reducing your total balance. Anyway, back to my monthly payments. I again asked for an explanation why the contract asked for payments of $171 why I was being charged $223 and why the contract couldnt break it down on how my payments were gonna be used, what amount was going towards my actual furniture and how much of it they were they keeping. He said that it showed on the computer but for some reason it didnt reflect on the contract. I asked if I could go see those numbers on the computer and was told only employees were allowed in the back. He said he couldnt show me how much the taxes were gonna be and how much the "processing fees" were gonna be unless I "MADE A FIRST PAYMENT and SIGNED the contract first" ...............WHAT THE HELL??????? I thought the almost $400 bucks I gave them already included my first payment?!!!!!!!!! Thats where I just about remembered I had to be at work and told them that I couldn't do business with them due to the inconsistancies in their contract. They said they would "write in" whatever I wanted but that I still had to sign BEFORE. um......let me think.....NO! Thats where the employee, out of nowhere, said something about a SPECIAL OFFER he just found out about. He said I had been approved for an even larger amount of credit. ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME??? DID HE JUST PULL THAT OUT OF HIS REAR AS A LAST DITCH EFFORT?????? I told them I wasnt signing anything and left. THANK GOODNESS!!!!! Ive read through all the postings on here and Im so glad I didnt get sucked in like the rest of these unfortunate people. Now since I gave them a check on a Friday, it probably wont post till monday and even if I put a stop payment on it now, my bank takes one business day to put it into effect so it wouldnt be able to stop it till tues. I recommend to those ppl with not so good credit like myself to JUST BE PATIENT and save up for a major purchase. Thats what Im doing and and in about 2-3 months I can go back and buy my sectional at the Ashley price of $1000 rather than be stuck paying over $4,000 after all the payments. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH TRS!
