This is what happened.  I went online, found a website which looked like O'Fallon Missouri Comfort Inn and Suites.  I called the number, they answered "Comfort Inn and Suites"  I asked, "Is this Comfort Inn and Suites in O'Fallon MO?  They said "Yes."  Got a decent room rate, made the transaction on the phone, but we rec'd NO EMAILED CONFIRMATION.  We wrote down a confirmation number only.  Went to the hotel.....first room was not cleaned properly.....went to a second room.  Our kids were pretty tired, room was OK at first.  Then we noticed things like:  some mold, a small hole in the wall....thought it was a bad drywalling detail, then in the morning, we see the "bodily fluids" on bedskirt.....maybe the hole in the drywall "hidden" under the wall-mounted light was a PEEPHOLE???  We went to check out, my wife complained to the front desk....front desk said, "sorry, you didn't book through us....not refundable because you need to call expedia and they will handle it."  When we got home, we went down a long list of phone tree numbers.  We talked to several agents and NONE of them could handle our troubles.  We hit dead-ends everywhere.  We tried to hit them with refusing to pay by disputing the charge with Discover Card.  Discover is awesome, we used them previously and they helped us out on another bad service transaction.  We will always be Discover Card clients!  Anyway, there was no legal means to withhold payment.  We reset the disput charges and had temporary credit on our credit card off-and-on for about 3 months.  The TSP crooks dug in their heels and would not budge!  They ultimately said "no refunds, not our problem, we are not going to help you."  Expedia is somewhat responsible.....letting this little subsidiary use their name.....Expedia agent claimed they did not have our reservation, sent us to Travelscape/Reservation Desk/TSP Reservation Counter.  Everyone we spoke with said it was not their fault.  There is no accountability!!!!!  We should have been given a full refund, major discount, credit voucher, apology, or something.  We got nothing from these bad service providers.  Discover Card gave me a $50 credit for all of our efforts and apologized for not being able to solve our problem.  People think credit card companies are evil, but my experience with Discover has been wonderful.  My departing words are, "TSP Reservation Counter is a deceitful business which should be punished to the fullest possible extent!"
