I live with some of my siblings and my elderly mother. We like many others are being ripped off by TXU by being overcharged for our monthly usage of electricity. These new Smart Meters are not working properly and reading more energy usage than what is being used. But TXU plans to do nothing about it. Oncor is the company providing and installing these meters and should also be held responsible for the damages they are causing to my family and as I can see on this site, to many others. Our current electric bill is double what it was before the meter was changed out and that is robbery, theft by deception, plain outright stealing etc etc... And TXU should not be allowed to get away with it. So I am interested in getting together with all the rest of the people complaining about TXU and Oncor, and file a class action Law Suit against them. If we don't stand up to them it is just going to continue to be the same and you are going to be a large amount of your hard earned money while they get richer. Have you been told that you would have to pay for a technician to come out and check out their equipment which they should be responsible for the up-keep, come on lets stop the bleeding now. Or some elderly person is not going to be able to pay and TXU will shut off their power and they may die from the heat.

Understand what you have read Stacey

I only write what is obvious to anyone with the intelligence to understand what they are reading. I am aware of the assistance TXU provides to help with people getting their electric bill payed so as to avoid disconnection, and the other methods available to deal with high energy bills. This was not the focus of my complaint if you read it more carefully you will see I focused on the point that these new "Smart Meter" that everyone is being updated to are not working properly. If you review all the complaints filed against TXU you will find that the most current deal mainly with the new meters. Everyone who has had the new meter installed at their home is complaining of the fact that their electric bill is almost or double what it was before. Now unless you are lost in you own little world than you should see that it is very unlikely that ten's, hundred's or possibly even thousands of people would all of a sudden use double the amount of energy they were previously using. So this would suggest that the meter are malfunctioning or the airway signal is being interfered with and the wrong information is being received at the utility company. Maybe before you rebut a complaint you should read more carefully and understand the complaint that's being filed. If you are the type that enjoys letting these large corporations take advantage of you that's fine, but I prefer to make them accountable for their mistakes and to have them compensate the victims of their mistakes.

TXU may suck but You can sign up for the average billing - I did years ago with both my Electric and Gas and even got a nice fat rebate check back for the gas not used

Suing will do no good - you will get nothing in a class action suit - lawyers get most of it - Your mother may qualify for assistance due to her age and health within the county you live in - look into options for elderly assistance

Utility assistance from TXU Energy

Over the years, TXU has provided over $50 million to assist customers with paying their utility bills and in many cases, the funs will stop a disconnection of their utility service. Hundreds of thousands of families have benefited from these funds. The assistance program is known as TXU Energy Aid.

The primary reason that the TXU Energy Aid program was developed was in order to provide temporary utility and energy bill payment assistance to the many thousands of families across Texas who face a critical situation each and every year. The program is funded from many sources, including customer donations, private funds, and money from the utility company.

Using these various sources of contributions that are both made by TXU Energy and its generous customers across its service territory, selected social service agencies, such as the Salvation Army and local community action agencies across Texas manage the program and administer the funds to individuals and families right in your local community. Incredible as it may sound, for over 26 consecutive years, TXU Energy Aid has provided almost $55 million in utility bill payment assistance, and the funds have helped over 340,000 families in need across Texas.

The commitment being made to help low income, elderly, and others in need is incredible. The TXU Energy Aid assistance program, which is their flagship energy / utility assistance program, has helped change the lives of thousands of people by giving them the time they need to get back on their feet.

As indicated above, the program is partly funded by customer contributions. Therefore TXU Energy customers who either want to request more information on how to get assistance, or those who want to help others in their community can contact the TXU Energy Aid contribution line at 1-877-281-6359. If someone does decide to donate money, customers of the program can make a one-time contribution or a recurring pledge to the TXU Energy Aid program by completing the information on the back of their monthly TXU Energy bill. And if you just need a little extra help to pay a bill, this resource is the option for you.

I do not work for TXU - the SW in me tries to help those in need
