U-Haul Of Eastern Ripoff New York City Releases very dangerous and defective trucks to unsuspecting customers Brooklyn New York

May 1, 2004 I finally was issued the truck reserved several weeks earlier. Unfortunately numerous clerical error put me well behind schedule. Once on the road problems with the trucks performance started to become aparent.

A very loud muffler which leaked exhaust fumes was the first problem to appear. Then came the rough shiifting transmission. Once at my first destination in Queens NY we found no operating exterior lights or signals of any kind. I just drove in highway traffic with no signals! Moving the seatbelt latch exposed a slit 3/4 thru the drivers seatbelt.

U-Hauls documented method of notifying them was a joke which wasted even more of my valuable time. Customer services SUCKS!

I was told to drive the truck back to where it was rented. U-Haul refused to establish what would happen should the truck be side lined. How would I complete my move and what would happen to my bill were not up for discussion on the phone.

To keep from being charged for vacating two apartments late and not being able to get any more extended time off from work I used the truck ONLY DURRING DAYLIGHT hours.

Returning the truck the next day I was told I did not sign the truck out. I guess U-Haul was telling me I stole the truck!

After numerous failed attempts to get partiall re-imbursement for unusable time due to not having headlights or other exterior lights I contacted New York State Attorney Generals office.

They recieved a smoking gun from U-Haul. I could not believe that U-Haul had inspected the same truck a short while before they issued it to me and found it defective!
I was placed in a truck which U-Haul had known would never have passed a state inspection and might have ended uo being the cause of a fatal acident.

Then I came accross story after story posted by irrate mistreated customers whos lives were placed in danger when they were issued defective U-Haul Trucks.

Right now two New York Senators are looking into this matter and why there is not one government agency which can intervene.
The news media is also investigating.
