I have been driving for 6 yrs.and have drove for several comPANIES. trucking is like any other job, it's usually what you do,that makes it either good or bad. my last job was the worst mistake of my life, working for u.s.express. they sound good, but deliver nothing, and nothing they tell you has any truth to it, this is one CO. i strongly suggest you stay away from.

done oreintation, sent in rental car to get truck, truck was in medway, ohio. i had to sit there for 3 1/2 days waiting on a load, because ohio. is not part of S.E.Regional, got load. call to go to Cinn. to drop/hook, and go to Clinton, tn, to deliver, got there by 7pm, in tn.

found out couldn't unload till 8pm, next evening, waited 25 hrs, live unloaded, swapped trailers with another u.s. driver, was brought back to tunnel hill, because swapped trailer had 6 pallets of damaged freight on it. Oh, didn't get lay-over pay for sitting 25 hrs, has to midnight to midnight, and they paid me $8 an hr for 10 hrs. a day for 3 days in ohio, but it took me 5 wks. till i got my money from them, counting oreintation.

i worked for them 10 days, made $480.There are good companies out there, (see link below) is one of them, (see link below) another, i find out later that u.s. turn over rate is 115%, check any company before you go to work for them.

Bad circumstances. You can make money with this idiot company. But, I still call them idiot xpress.

AUTHOR: Paul - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, May 15, 2005

Bill, sorry to hear you got screwed around like that. I can see how $48 a day would piss you off.

I only drove for 2 years. In that time, I was at a dozen companies. I spent 90 days at USX.

I have to be fair. I did make money there. At .28 a mile, I got a lot of hauls because I was running cheap. Plus, I ran pretty hard, so the dispatcher sent me a lot of hot loads.

To give you an example, one week I actually got 6479 PAID miles. Solo. There are a lot of teams who don't get that. In order to do that, everything has to be just right. Every load was drop and hook. No waiting. Plus, all the runs were long.

Most weeks were 3000 to 4000. But, that's still good miles. In fact, I got too many miles. The reason I left is because the idiots sent me a team load. Then, they turned around and suspended me for taking it.

That's why I look at them as idiots.

If you go to work at idiot xpress, you will get miles if you are willing to run. If you turn down loads, or deliver late, then you'll have a problem. Other drivers, not you, Bill.

I think your regional status caused part of your problem, Bill. I did 48, so I could take anything that came my way.

Plus, remember, drivers who run cheap get all the freight. Once your pay starts going up, your miles start falling off. Who would you give the load to? The .28 or the .36?

I will show you some of the negatives of idiot xpress.

First, they're disorganized. I remember my first day there. Dispatch said to hook up to a trailer that wasn't even in the yard. I drove around double-checking for 20 minutes before I finally gave up and went back in and told them.

Next, if you end up at the Ontario, Ca. terminal, it's bound to cause you grief. When I was there, you had to always go through the shop on your way out. One time, I had a pickup that was due right now. The idiots in the shop chose that time to screw around. The shop sucks there. The broke the windshield and left glass all over.

My dispatch was Salt Lake. I got freight. But, every week, an hour on the phone correcting my pay. Same thing, every week. Call payroll and tell them what's missing. They get the dispatch on the line. What a hassle! And, a waste of time.

Idiot xpress rails a lot of stuff. But, operations don't understand the rail system. I don't know how many times I had to go back 2 or 3 times before the railroad could check in my trailer. Operations needs to book the load before the rail yard will accept it. No booking means you turn around and drive back out.

Plus, the stupid auto-shifts. Always in the wrong gear. Plus, won't hold hills good. I usually go down all jake, no brake. With auto-shift, anything over 2200 means the trans will upshift whether it's in low/hold or not. You have to snub the brakes to keep the engine speed down.

If you had a straight 10, you just run it in 7th and let the engine hold you back. The detroits will run 2500 without busting.

On the plus side, there are a lot of drop and hooks. I did have to help restack a broken pallet once or twice. But, otherwise, no touch freight.

They do have nice Volvos. I always had a Century. The trucks are decent.

Overall, I'd say idiot xpress is somewhere in the middle. Not as bad as swift. But, they definitely have a long way to go if they ever expect to keep professional drivers happy for years.

I always got the feeling the company was pulling against me, not with me. It's like trying to hold top speed while somebody has two fingers on the dolly brake.

After a while, the aggravation just wears you down.
