I'm a new user of Uber and I'm already being ripoff on my third ride and first week. I requested a ride from point A to B and they charge me 23$ which I was happy... When I called hours later to return to point A ( same distance) they charge me 98$

Funny

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, October 31, 2016

This is just another proof of how funny these "ride sharing" apps are.  I am neither a driver for one of these or a regular taxi driver.  But it is always funny how everyone always figures that they are "beating the system" and being cool because they got one over on the taxi drivers.

The fact is that they are a company as well and need to make money, and while they are good if you want to go during "regular" hours when they are not too busy these companies can be a great savings.  But they make up for it if you try and go outside of "regular" hours or during a busy time.  Because then they come up with "surge" pricing.  Where basically since they are unregulated they can charge what ever they want...and there is your problem.

You can get an estimate from Uber in ADVANCE what the charge will be.  So you could have declined the return trip with them and gone with another Ride Sharing service or even *gasp* a "regular" taxi.  But you stuck with them.

As for the cost, it wasn't just "hours" later...it was 3AM in the morning, or what is basically outside of regular hours.

Now, had you gone with a regular taxi you probably would have been looking at about $60 each way.
