I fell on undue hardships by loosing my job. I then did not work for 10 months. I then got a job for 4 months then that job ended and was out of work again for 9 months. During this time I lost my Stepfather, my Dad was Murder, and mother in law bled to death in my house when her tumor burst. I had to sell my house take the equity to pay bills - move & use all my retirement to live on to support my NO working wife and child. This company UCB is a collection agency that I have been speaking with and IS the ONLY company that will not be willing to settle my debt by cutting it in half and then make payments of $100 a month. I am trying to do the credit payback system with settlements instead of filing for bankruptcy. However UCB Collection Agency IS the ONLY company that will not work with me. I even worked a settlement with Chase Credit Card company direct. UCB is trying to collect a debt for Chase and will NOT work with me. Chase says it is up to UCB and UCB says they are going by Chase's rules. THIS is BOGUS. I told them to stop calling and do whatever since they will not work with me and they still call everyday a few times. This company has a ( F ) rating with the BBB and uses foul unrespectfull language with me and other as far as I can tell by reading all the negative remarks, Why not conduct business like " Lonestar " the good collection agency and you may get better results. You catch more bees with honey :) PEACE

there is no dishonesty in filing for bankruptcy

Honest2009:
There is no shame in filing for bankruptcy. It is obvious that with your limited income, you will be able to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy. You have no assets for them to take.
Think about it companies like GM and Chrysler all filed for bankruptcy. They are trying to survive, and get a fresh start. That is the purpose of bankruptcy.
It sounds like you are living in an apartment, so they cant take your house. I dont know if you are financing any cars, but if you are you may have the funds now to pay for them.
The credit card companies are probably hitting you with 29% interest, or higher, soooo they assumed a risk when they gave you the card.
As far as your credit is concerned, your rating is probably screwed now because of all the charge off's and slow pays, so a bankruptcy cant hurt you much more.
Your only other option is to take all your cash out of the bank, and put it in a safe in your apartment, and depending on what State you live in, hide your assets, and stop paying any of your bills.
You have no bank accounts to levy, you have no house to foreclose on, you have no wages to garnish, so more than likely, the companies will not sue you.
Change your phone number to a new number, and give the number ONLY to those you want to have it.
You will still get letters in the mail, but those letters shred real nice, and you donteven have to open them
