I bought this car from Ugly Duckling back in feb.2000.It's a 94 Saturn 4 door sedan. When I was buying the car I asked them if there was any major history with this car. Randy the general manager told me that there is not any major history with the Saturn, I also made sure that I asked if there was a salvaged title on the car, Randy told me no! My step dad Joe Sinuous was there when I asked these questions.

So I bought the car thinking there was nothing wrong with this car. As time went on I started to notice that there was things wrong with the car. I thought since it was a used car there would be problems, that the risk you take buying a used car. So I decided to go look on the net on car fax.com to see if there was any reports on the car. When carfax.com gave me the report there is 9 major history violations, (salvaged title, odometer reading wrong) these are just two of the things that carfax.com gave me.

When I called about the problems, Randy &Bill did not here about the complaint, until I got a hold of Randy himself. Randy told me that he would take care of the problem. Well a couple of days later I didn't hear anything back so I call and asked for the manager, I had to leave a message for him. Bill called me back later that day, & told me to come in and we will take care of the problem. When I came down to the lot and talk to Bill he told me that he would have to look it over. Randy called me later that week and told me that he found that the car in carfax.com under it having odometer reading was wrong, Randy told me to come to the lot and talk to Bill again, Bill told me that we would take care of it. And not worry about it.

A couple of weeks went by and nothing was happening so I stopped bringing in my payment, they started calling everyday to my work. Randy from Ugly Duckling asked me why I haven't came in to make the payment. I told him that I wasn't going to, he told me that there would nothing he could do to fix the problem until I came down to get the payments up to date. So the next day I went down to Ugly Duckling and paid my payment. Well nothing was happening by the time my next payment came up. They promised me that they would put me in another car. Paid the payment, Randy told me to come back tomorrow to pick the car. When I came down to Ugly Duckling Bill told me a total different story. This went on for about two weeks and it was time for me to make another payment. I didn't make the payment Randy call & call & call, I finally told him that I was going to make the payment again, but I never made the payment. They sent my loan to the collections (there collections).

That's when Maria called and asked me when I was going to make the payment, I told her I wasn't making any payment until they helped me. She said that she would send the complaint in and put it in the computer. This has been going on since then.

Now ugly duckling tells me that they are going to repo my car and that I'm still going to have to pay for the car. Larance another collector call and told me that a salvaged title is nothing to worry about as long as the damages did not over exceed the blue book value. That's the last thing I've heard beside them calling everyday asking for the payment.

I can not help but respond to the comment about people with bad credit. My boyfriend bought a car from Ugly Duckling that would not start a few days after buying it. Thinking that it was the battery, he borrowed my car to get to work. Later that day, I had his car jumped so that I could go get him a new battery. Within an hour of my getting out of his car, it caught fire and burned almost beyond recognition. Because he has less than perfect credit, does that mean it is ok for companies such as Ugly Duckling, to sell him a dangerous car??? Even after that, he was still harrassed by Ugly Duckling for payment. They are lucky that he did not sue them.

Bo, after reading your response several times over, I think I figured out what you are trying to say. If you actually knew proper grammar, however, it might have not taken so long.



You ask if the customer had shoddy credit or not. That is his business. I find it very shady any dealer who aims toward those with bad credit. People have bad credit due to various circumstances, not necessarily spending habits. This guy was sold a lemon, he also has a car in lien, he also has to get to work. Hence, he can work up quite a repair bill due to the dealership's negligence or the rental he may have to drive as a result of not being able to get another car because he is stuck with this one.



People with bad credit tend to get scammed easier as they are more willing to accept the first offer they get, which is why a dealer can get away by discussing via monthly payments, packing with BS options like VIN Etch. The customer is so desperate to get a car they don't read the fine print, and spot delivery makes it even easier for them to get scammed.



Ugly Duckling is, in my opinion, a rip off business. There are several ripoff reports I have read about them and I know not to do business with them.



And Carfax is pretty easy to understand, so I doubt the customer misread having a salvage title on his vehicle. Even still, an accident might not show up on carfax.



For example, I was sold a car that had been in a major accident. Doesn't show up on Carfax.



My girlfriend's car was hit two months ago. Still hasn't shown up on carfax.



The car that hit her was totalled. Still hasn't shown up on Carfax.



And about 'Larance' sayiing the salvage title is no big deal if it doesn't exceed the blue book value of the car. A vehicle can't be considered salvaged unless it is considered a total loss.. total loss = more to repair than to replace.



If a salvage title is no big deal, why won't a warranty company provide a service contract for a salvage vehicle? Because there are hidden problems they, like the custoomer, don't want to pay for.



And last but not least, for Mr. Williams. The badbusinessbureau.com and this Rip-off Reprot has done more for consumers and has shown both sides of this story.. because even your BS is posted here.

Comments for Henry Williams of Ugly Duckling:



As a consumer, I appreciate the fact that Bad Business Bureau lets people post their grievances here, unedited. Even if his/her "perception" is wrong, posting it here (a) helps them get it off their chest; (b) gives the offending business or party a chance to answer publicly; and (c)brings the matter "into the light" (out of the secrecy and darkness of a

two-party issue). If the consumer's perception is wrong, perhaps the insight of others will bring them understanding.



On the other hand, if his/her perception is right, it exposes shady/shoddy business practices for what they are. As you can see from all of the reports made here, there ARE a lot of bad business practices taking place every day.



As a suggestion for your company, rather than having consumers interpret the Carfax reports incorrectly as you indicate this consumer has done, why don't you take the high road and pay for the Carfax report on every vehicle you sell IN ORDER TO DEMONSTRATE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS THAT YOUR BUSINESS 'TAKES THE HIGH ROAD' and wants to deal in the sunshine. If a car has good history, you should be proud to let the consumer-world know.

Sure, to do so would cost you a few extra dollars on every transaction, but why not add this LEGITIMATE cost of doing business or, better yet, replace one of the shadier "fees" that goes right into your big-business pocket?



I have never purchased a car from Ugly Duckling, nor do I plan to (because there is far too much money, or more accurately "credit," in the car marketplace already). When possible, I prefer to pay cash for my vehicles and forego the slick sales staff. Taking the middle man out of car purchases has saved me, well, at least a zillion dollars so far in this

lifetime. Buying through a dealer is the purest form of highway robbery.



The least you can do, if you are a reputable merchant, is spend a few bucks to give your potential customers peace of mind when they're taking on an installment loan for thousands of dollars to buy a vehicle for which original service records. Why oh why

are consumers required to have their vehicles serviced at the dealerships to protect the warranties but yet when buying a used vehicle, the prior owners' service records are removed from the vehicle??? Is it because matters EXCEPT THE PERSON CURRENTLY HOLDING THE CAR LOAN FOR IT? I think so. What a sad fiscal

state our country has fallen into.



Mr. Williams, do the right thing. Eliminate some unfounded fee in your vehicle delivery package and give customers, in black and white, the "real picture" of their car's history. It's the least you as a merchant can do.

Rebuttal:

A thorough review of the allegations made in this complaint has found them to be baseless and completely unsupported by the facts. The individual making these false accusations was apparently unfamiliar with how to properly use the CarFax service which is the sole basis of the claim.



Our customer erroneously interpreted the cursory information included in the FREE record check available on the CarFax web site home page. The statement in the complaint that CarFax reported "9 major history violations" is absolutely false. CarFax simply stated that 9 records were found in their database. The FREE record check goes on to instruct the

user that if they want to learn the details of the 9 records found, a complete CarFax Vehicle History Report should be ordered. That report however is not free. If our customer had been willing to pay for the detailed report, as we did, the following information would have been provided.



The 9 records referred to in the CarFax report reflect each time the vehicle was titled, registered, emission tested, or listed for sale by a licensed seller in the State of Arizona. Additionally, CarFax reported that there were no problems relating to the title, odometer, emissions, or previous registered uses. There was no record of the vehicle ever having a

salvage title. The odometer record was accurate and in order. There was no record of any accidents, fire or flood damage, or prohibited use.



Ugly Duckling Car Sales does everything reasonably possible to protect our customers and provide them with affordable transportation. We spend thousands of dollars each month on vehicle history reports for every car, truck, and van that comes into our inventory. If there is any discrepancy regarding the title, odometer, or previous use of the vehicle, it is

immediately rejected.



This complaint is totally unfounded and full of erroneous allegations and misinformation. I also believe badbusinessbureau.com does a disservice to the public by posting such grievances without regard for accuracy, objectivity, or balance. Reputable forums for consumer discord such as the

Better Business Bureau's regional web sites notify businesses of such complaints and solicit a response so they may post both sides of the issue in fairness to all parties involved.



If badbusinessbureau.com is truly interested in helping consumers

distinguish between companies that are concerned about after sale service and those that ignore their customers' complaints, then perhaps you will make an effort to post both sides of the story. I can assure you, if you choose to take the high road, Ugly Duckling will be there with you and we will respond promptly to any complaint submitted to your site by our customers.

It's the responsibility of the victim to contact the company that ripped them off. OK, while your here, let me tell you, there are other Rip-off Reports on Ugly Duckling.

Also forgot to put that the car has been sitting for about 2 1/2 months because of all the different engine & suspension problems there is with the car. Since I have owned the car I have replaced all of theraditator parts(water pump,thermastat,fan motor,&all of the coolant,&all of hte belts ect.)thats just some of the parts I have replaced .
