I rented a 26' box truck on Sunday, Nov.3, 2013 at 9 am from Uhaul (Allstar Storage in McKinney, Texas) for 1 day and traveled 24 miles. The truck was returned 8 hours later in the same condition as it was and the gas tank was filled with 4 gallons of gas within 2 miles of the rental facility. I returned the keys and paperwork and placed them in the drop box.  I estimated my total charge to be  around $65.

My credit card was charged $290.16! Hence, I tried to call Allstar Storage in McKinney several times for 5 days during normal business hours (M-F between 10 am and 5 pm cst). However, nobody answered the phone and there was no voice mail message.

So, I called the Uhaul corporate office. I finally spoke to a young lady at the regional office after being on the phone for approx. 1 hour waiting on hold and being transferred to 3 different departments. I explained what happened and she offered to refund 290.16- 65.90 and appologized for my inconvenience. I asked if Uhaul was willing to take any financial responsibility for 24% interest that had accrued on my credit card for 1 week on the $290.16, my time and frustration calling All Star Storage for 5 days (apparently they closed for "vacation" until Nov.25 according to the lady in the regional office), and over an hour of my time on the phone trying to remedy this problem with "corporate" Uhaul folks. She stated that there was nothing she could do about that. However, she was happy to grant me a refund for the monies Uhaul overcharged me.

I asked to speak to the regional manager. She replied that he was busy and would call me in less than 48 hours. Well, that was 3 days ago and still no call.

My credit card shows 3 separate charges now totalling $356.06 from Uhaul on that 1 day rental and there is no credit for the $290.16 as of 10:30 pm on 11/12/2013. So, now I am paying 24% interest on $356.06 for a 1 day truck rental that should had been $65.90! We'll see if the regional manager actually calls me back as promised.

Clearly, somebody at Allstar Storage made a mistake in billing. I'm ok with that. However, closing your store to go on "vacation" for 3 weeks without notifying your customers in case there is a problem is poor business practice. Finally, the Uhaul corporate office (regional and national) did not handle this issue professionally. I suppose Uhaul expects their customers to pay for the mistakes their employees and independant dealers make.

You clearly didn't read my report in detail. It's people like you that will continue to consistently make mistakes in your personal and professional life and look for scapegoats in order to protect your fragile ego and low self esteem. I am confident that you often refuse to take responsibility for your mistakes. Consequently, you chose to write an emotionally driven reply to my report. Give yourself a big hug, sweetie. It'll be ok.

First if they made a mistake in billing of course it needs to be corrected.  But if I look at the timing of this correctly, it looks like they agreed to refund you the money over a 3-Day weekend.  Where it may take several days for the credit to show up.  So this may just be a case of while inconivienent you just need to give it a few days.

But when asking for the "Interest" that you had to incurr because of this.  The 24% is your APR meaning about 2% per month, even if it takes an entire month to get this cleared up you are looking at a grand total of $5.80.  I'm not saying you don't have a right to go after it, just putting the amount in perspective.

Of course there is always one final option.  Since you hopefully have a receipt showing the amount that should have been charged, you can place a dispute with your Credit Card company and let them deal with it.

You rented a truck from a third party agent and they overcharged you.  U-Haul offered to set things right but that was not good enough for you!

The reason you pay 24% interest is that you are pond scum.  That's the same reason why you had to move yourself instead of hiring professionals to do the job. U-Haul did not make you choose them and U-Haul did not force you to put your expenses on a high-rate credit card.  Those were choices you made. U-Haul acted reasonably and you behaved like a spoiled little brat. Now you are stuck with paying $356 for a $66 truck rental because you refused their offer.
